Best way to find a jam up finished dog??????????

Just want to hear what everyone else has to say is the best way to git a really good long range jam up finished dog when urs are gone and your in a bind for one quick? Also, whats a good price range for them? My thoughts are the only way its gonna happen is if you can find someone thats getting out and selling everything and then they still usuallly want an arm and a leg for them. I now honestly believe that no one that is hunting is going to sell u a good dog!!! People have made me where i won't ever believe that they will again. Just wanna see what you all think about this topic???

   I've always compared hogdoggers to team ropers, having been both I feel entitled. So many times I've watched guys and gals get into team roping. They spend thousands of dollars on trucks, trailers, a roping pen, and entry fees, but missed the most important thing. They spent $500 on a horse to go compete with a small group of guys who are riding mounts worth $15000 or more. A lot of the doggers I've been around go about it the same way. Fancy rigs, kennels, all the little toys that go with the trade, but set a limit on what the will spend on a dog. Go hunt with the guys that have the good dogs. Everyone will have a price, unfortunately its usually real high. Think about how much money it took the saler to produce that dog. And with both you have the blood sucking traders feeding on the unsuspecting. Hope I don't offend anyone, and if I did, look in the mirror and ask yourself why? This is only my oppinion and all of us know what oppinions are worth.

I am with the group on this one. Great dogs are not bought or traded for they are raised and have to have the time and effort put into them to make em that great. It sucks starting over. But do your homework on some good pups that you can get and do it yourself. You might luck out along the way and pick up an old dog that knows the drill and can help start your youngsters. Hope it works for ya.

I agree Tusk Hog and YellowBM, I consider my 5 yr old yellow dog to be the best of the best (FOR WHAT I NEED AND TRAINED HIM FOR). I could never sell him because only I and possibly my wife and best friend, know how much I have put into him. If I did sell him I would have to start at $20,000 and if someone actually paid it I would be sick. There's no way I could spend that $20,000 and replace him because me and him are like a team. He's just like an extension of myself. I understand his body language and thoughts just like he does mine.

be carefull. buying a dog... sum people say that got what ur lookin for.. and its bull.... make sure u want it and have hunted behind it.. before u say anything.. there is sum scemming people on there just rying to make a dollar.. and they should be delt with...

Really good Tusk Hog! A+, Man its soo hard for me to try and make enough hunts with some good young dogs with my buddies good dogs to try and make them. U know mostly i end up going with just some buddies that don't have dogs or with family that don't either, so i just need a good dog to get some of mine going good. I have one that will find a hog is long range but won't put no mouth on em, i got an older dog that will stick with her but has done got kinda slow. i just need one good dog that can do it all besides catching. yes i know very well how the supposedly good dogs work out on here. Have tried 1000$ dogs that won't get out from under my feet and soo on. i think i would spend 1500 on a good dog but thats about it for me. I know exactly how ppl feel about their good dogs and cannot put a price on them and the ones they wanna sell, well they r selling for a reason..... in my opinion no dog is worth no 3 or 5 thousand bucks or more but thats me! Maybe if their life were guarantied they would but he could die or be killed at any given moment. Though i have talked to a couple guys lately wanting 2500 for a couple good dogs they claim i will go try them out when i have time off from work if they r still around but they will have to be jam the hell up and smart enough to stay alive for me to pay that much and really thats still too much. I don't have that kinda money to burn and waste like some ppl do. i work very hard for every penny i earn and everything esp gas is so dang expensive. Now i will contradict myself! lol - if i had the dog im looking for i would not even think twice about selling it for no price but thats just me........... we will see one these days. Those dogs are out there, yes there are PLENTY of JUNK too. I get tired of people complaining about the dogs the try from the classifieds though. Thats easily fixed by not believeing everything you told, without doing the homework of checking references and taking the time to hunt with the dog a few times before any money changes hands. I go in the calssifieds DAILY, and just by reading the persons profile that made the post I can find out how many times that person posted pictures or stories of the hogs they catch, MOST OF THE DOG JOCKEYS will only have posts in the classifieds and I can find that out from spendind 5 minutes researching the person making the post. then I can take their email and Google it, same with any other info.

BUT HERE is something I want to say, those really good dogs that are made, are usually made by the individual and hunted the same way by the same person fora few years, and when you do take the dog home and it may not hunt for the individual that just bought him, YES I KNOW A REAL DOG WILL HUNT ANYTIME ANY WHERE, and I really don't own any of those real dogs personally, because I have sent out several dogs taht come back and would not cut the mustard for anybody else. Some dogs took a couple years to get to the way they were and a two week or a 30 day trial ain't going to be enough time for the dog to settle in. Therefore Derned if you do and derned if you don't.

However back to your original question, THAT PERFECT dog you are seeking, do you see others have the dog that fits that description?
Well all the people I know that have THE DOG, that they always wanted, saw the dog hunt that belonged to someone else and made mention they wanted to but that dog, then when the oppertunity comes available thats how they got their hands on those dogs. Its just a little communication required, letting hunting aquaintenances know what you want and ask them to give yo a holler if that comes up

Yep i do it like that too uglydog, maybe im just a little impatient, i wan't it now! lol but yes that is the only way i will buy dogs that cost some good money (in the woods). I think to make a really good dog yourself you have to have more time to spend with it than i do. Hunting the dog alot more than i do. I hunt when i can and that is usually once a wknd if im lucky. As of rite now i haven't been able to hunt for 3 weeks and won't be able to go until the end of the 1st week in may because of an annual shutdown in the mill i work in. I will keep it short and simple.

There is no short cuts. Buy a few pups from the best bloodline out there. Raise and hunt those pups, breed them  and select the best pups from that litter. I wouldn't hesitate to breed brother with sister if that is a good option. You can take a female and breed her back to her sire and pay a fee. The key here is to select the best pups from this breeding...

Try to select the natural pups. A well bred pup will disappear in the woods and make a round at a young age or the first time in the woods. The pup is following its natural instincts.It usually does not need much training just shown what you want.

A top hunting dog is born not made. But it can be ruined in the wrong hands...

The best way has already been stated in my opinion. The fastest way is to get a loan and buy NechesBobcats dog or one like it.
Don't expect to have that kind of connection with it though.

good one boar ninja! lol - one like neches probably wouldn't do number 2 for me! i have actually seen some that are jam up and will not hunt for other ppl!!! so neches probably wouldn't be sick anymore after i brought him back! haha. Nothing at all against ur dog u know what im saying. and on the overall topic i just really don't have the time to go with buddies with good d0gs the way i need to get some puppies going... I just need a good dog or two already going and need em a.s.a.p. - that way i can line up hunts and actually catch hogs without having to wait or depend on someone elses dogs - im an independant hunter and if i find a good spot and plan a hunt and no one else can go i will go by my darned self or my son and i will go! My best guess is just to try and buy in the woods - do you know what im talking about and agree or no???

I understand where you are coming from but and if you keep talking to enough people and explain this enough times and check enough referrences you may find it.
You are asking for something that takes time and effort but you don't have the time, so you are in between a rock and a hard place

I understand someone not wanting to spend over $1500 on a dog because of the fact he could get killed the first time in the woods. The problem with that is anybody that has a top dog knows what they have and aint gonna sell the dog for $1500 because they know they can get $2500.
But now you can buy lots and lots of " JAM-UP FINISHED DOGS" for $500 bucks off baydogs.com or the classifieds and then waste lots and lots of hours of your time and driving and lots of gallons of gas taking them back..

As far as the best way to buy a good finished dog. A good way is to find a dog that you KNOW is a good dog and take a pocket full of cash with you to the owner and lay it out in front of him.. A lot of people will talk about wanting to buy a dog but that aint the same as showing up with the cash in your pocket...

Thanks chainrated i agree with u 100% only thing is the ppl i know that have these kinda dogs probably wouldn't sell em for 100,000. i have talked to a few guys that claim they r getting out of hunting and have a couple dogs they want 2500 for and i believe i would pay that now for some really good dogs but they gonna have to be good and i want to hunt with them a few times b4 i buy them. im gonna give that price a try when i git some time away from work. i will go hunting with these guys and get them to come hunt one of the places i hunt. i will want to see them in action in at least two different places though. This is the only way i know to do it. yeah ive found out plenty about them 350, 500, even 1000$ dogs ppl claim are finished. b4 i started working this annual shutdown i bet i tried 12 dogs in the last two months.
