With the rediculously HIGH price of gas now days. I have a new idea for general transportation/hunting rig. This is a Kawasaki KLR 650 dualsport motorcycle. It is equally as capable offroad as it is on road. Street legal, and eliminates the need for seperate hunting transportaion ie 4wheeler or side by side. With an attached side car. Just immagine a dog box instead of the tool box on the side car and a scabbard for my lever rifle. They also make a conversion kit to put a diesel engine on this rig which gets ~100 miles per gallon at 55mph. Throw in some homemade diesel, a couple cur dogs, and a lever rifle its time to go hunting and OPEC can shove thier $4.00 gasoline were the sun dont shine.  . What do yall think? Not to mention i could drive to to work and out to check cows.  Waylon |

You can't go wrong with a Kawasaki. They are very easy to ride and low maintenance. I've had harley's, Honda's, Yamaha's, and Kawasaki's and if I had to buy another one today it'd be a kawasaki. Although right now I'm riding a Honda 450X that I did some major modifications to and wouldn't trade it for anything. I've opened up the exhaust and air box, installed a JD Jetting kit and adjustable fuel screw, tachometer, speedometer, hour meter, odometer, removed smog pump, pink wire mod, softer springs and shortened suspension 2 inches for my little body. Oh yea, also put on a Baja designs street legal kit and got a license plate for it and got an IMS 4 gallon tank in case I really need to get out there. Oh, and a Durelle racing seat which makes a big difference. It took a little time and money but it's amazing!
Oh yea, I got a Twin Air intake also.

Sounds like you got it decked out. I'm not really a motorcycle guy. I've never even been on one. But I've been seriously thinking about making homemade diesel, biodeisel, or methel ester...call it what you will. But ofcourse there is a learning curve and I'd definatly start small scale. I can't think of any better way than with a diesel powered motorcycle which i just recently have been looking into. It seems to me like the Kawasaki KLR 650 is the most commonly converted bike, as best i can tell from poking around on the internet. I'm thinking of getting one on the higher milage side to learn the ropes on and then convert it to diesel power. I thought about a diesel car like a jetta but a bike would certainly be easier to learn with an to replace any fuel lines and gaskets that need to be changed in order to use methel ester(biodiesel). AND not to mention cheaper and if i screwed it up just put the old gas motor back on. The idea of a side car with a dog box came to me and seems silly at first but I can't see any reason why it would not work. The tool box like the one in the picture would make it more practial for me as a commuting vehicle. I could hual a few bags of cubes, and tools for fixing fence, while checking cows. Just makes it more practical for every day use if you have a place to hual/store things. I've seen guys show up for work at the fire station on thier motorcycle only to be floated to a different station then have to pack up bunker gear, bedding and what ever else on a motorcyle its not easy. haha Waylon |

All I hunt on now is a dirt bike. I gutted a 250 pound hog and laid him across my seat and sat on himt with my gun on a sling behind my back and the dogs running. Went through several miles of bad mudholes. That was on my Kawasaki 140L. That thing is a blast to ride in the woods cause it's so short and geared so low. I got on ebay and found a Dual Sport cargo rack and bolted on my honda and got bungee cords and attached a milk crate to put squirrels or my rat terrier in. He road over 10 miles with me the other day and loved it.

I've got 4 door trucks, side-by-sides, 4 wheelers, 3 wheelers and horses all at my disposal but it a lot of fun making it simple and enjoying riding a bike.

I rode dirt bikes a lot growing up and just a few years ago sold my 04 Yamaha YZ 426. I love riding a motorcyle and would really like having an enduro to ride on the road and in the woods. They will definitely get in some tight trails but mud on a bike SUCKS! We used to ride in the national forest and it would suck riding through a long muddy area, fighting it the whole time.

i have been researchng this thing since i read this and found that they made a military version that is for sale to the public...its rated to run on jp8 or deisel and gets 120mpg at 80mph...im about to start modifying a side car into a dog box...lol
