I got a male lacy pup that is 15 months old I have had him since he was six weeks old. Few months ago he started getting a little aggressive with other dogs (never humans). He barks and growls at other dogs and tries to show dominance when hunting and with my new dog in the yard (tried with my older dogs but they didn't put up with it). I tried runnin him with a training collar but he won't leave my side when he has it on. He bays hard in a pen and let's any of my dogs work with him in there. I have used training collars and other corrective action to try and stop the behavior with no success. Any suggestions would be welcome or is he just a cull?

Not aggressive to my female she has not been in heat yet not a year old yet and he started this before I had any females in my yard. He does it with my buddies female dogs. Stopped hunting him because of this.

Get him around some dogs keep hunting him keep on him he will straighten or u can cut him. If he don't stop cull but u aint going to fix him by not having him around other dogs. If u can let him bay around a pen with a couple other dogs for a good while not just 5 mins but an hour or two. If u have lacys u know they are finicky just be careful not to give him too much boot. Lacys are not cur dogs most take a softer hand but when u do get onto him say no or something the same then when he tried it out of reach say the same thing or noise and 99 percent of the time a lacy will quit. This has been my experience with them and had several over the years and have two now. Some work some are culls but I really like the breed.

Yea peach I love the breed (plus I'm from Texas) he knows that he gets in trouble for it, and I've been correcting the behavior since day one, my hope is that he's just a little more hard headed than my other lacy's. He will bay with the other dogs and shows no aggression when we r on a hog.

Chris let me know what u have in mind I might be interested. Be for warned though he has gone to the woods but never been on a hog in the woods, Bayed a good bit in the pen. I haven't put much into him since he started getting aggresive because it just drove me nuts.

dog aggressive is a good reason for culling if you are keeping dogs worthy of breeding...

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog... A hunting dog is born not made...

Most lacy's I've been around will fight but also smart enough that when u say stop and go hunt they do it. He knows better but still does it and that is what drives me crazy.

IVe never really hunted around them, but if that's true, the problem I see is running into a cur that ain't got no quit. You gotta break dog aggression, nip it in the bud. I thought I had until yesterdays Chihuahua situation

I have owned my lacy gyp since about five months old she is now close to five years old and a finished dog and about as good as you can get. Me and her were at each others throats like cats and dogs I wanted to strangle her more than a few times and almost sold her a hundred times, now glad I did not . I also have been around and hunted with many many lacy dogs since I hunted with TG who has bred Lacy's for years and years and if there is one thing I have learned about a Lacy and that is you the handler have to adjust to them not them adjust to you . If a person does not think he can do that he does not need to invest in a Lacy dog. Very very smart dogs, Very fast dogs , Very quick dogs, Tons of stamina, Very Very Bull Headed and Very slow to mature hunting wise type of dogs but once they do and you have the patiences to wait they are some great damn dogs ! You will not see your best dog with Lacy's until they are close to 5 years old . JMO

Texas I have heard that and that is why I don't want to quit on this one. I can see him turning all his I'm a bad dog mojo into I'm a hog hunting machine mojo and I would hate to miss that.

LacyHunter
It just takes a ton of patiences with Lacy dogs and that is why most people don't want to mess with them. It takes twice as much patiences with them as it may with another breed of cur dogs at least that is my opinion from my experiences with them. From what I have seen most Lacy's really don't show you who they are until they are close to four years old some five. Most are shorter ranged dogs hunt out 150 to 500 yards and that 500 is pushing it on most Lacy's that I know of. If you get a Lacy dog hurt really bad as a young dog it seems to take them a lot longer to get their mojo back if they do come back from it you don't have to worry about them getting hurt like that again to because they are intelligent dogs and usually learn from their almost fatal mistakes. A Lacy dog is a real challenge to a handler and most the time they will test you harder than you test them . I hated mine for a long time but then again I loved her at the same time its just a love hate relationship with Lacy's but once they show you who they really are which is not easy to get to I ended up loving mine and have been offered some pretty big money for her but just can't sell her if that makes any damn since after all the battles me and her have been threw with each other we have fought each other about as much as we have fought hogs together I just finally figered out her head is harder than mine once that happened it was clear sailing from there . Lol !
Good Luck man .
