I wanted to make sure with the new hog dog season in action that everyone remember to touch base with landowners and neighbors of hunting property and make sure there is a CLEAR understanding of what you are doing... There is a thread going on another site bout a group of dogs hunting a nieboring property and clearly you dont want you dogs on some of there places i will post a few responses of what we have to deal with trying to HELP farmers and ranchers out. This is not a rant just a warning and reminder. Responses: Ive had a problem with hog dogs this year on my place, next year i know 7 of them wont both me. I didn't think the collars were any good without the tracking device Ive been throwing them in a pond to keep em from finding evidence. Next time you see on of the hounds on your property shoot it! Bet they stop letting them roam... Shoot,shovel,shhhhhh.......Take the radio collars off and drive them 20 miles away and dispose of them. Guys these are landowners!!  |

Unfortunately I see it all the time on some of the other hunting boards. I absolutely do not agree with someone shooting a dog with collars on just because it is on the property. If the dogs is seen chasing stock, then I have now problem with them being shot, but at least be man enough to face the owner, or call the local LEO and let them know what happened.

WOW. I was talking with a hunter yesterday that hunts ALOT of land east of me. He was telling me the same thing about other hunter messing it up for him. I would of never geussed that some people just drop dogs anywhere and go hunt, I thought that was a east Texas thing  . |

Matt- I hope the rest know that was a joke on my part. Just so happens I live west of 35. not by much(6 miles). I am rom Beaumont and grew up hunting the marsh(ducks) there and deer up near Center.

From my understanding it's against the law to shoot a hunting dog on your property, or am I wrong? And yeah we've all had dogs that cross property lines chasing hogs, one thing I'm learning is not to just get permission from the landowner themselves, but ask the landowner who owns the surrounding properties and if it's ok with them if a dog should cross a fence. Or go to the surrounding landowners yourself and ask them , heck they may even ask you to hunt their land too. And yeah I've heard of guys from that pretty much just hunt wherever they drop their dogs at, they give everyone a bad name and should have their butts kicked for doing it. I live in East Texas but I obey the  (just couldnt resist) |

From my understanding it's against the law to shoot a hunting dog on your property, or am I wrong? If the dog is just on the property, then yes it is against the law. If the dog is attacking livestock, they may be shot. |
