Loaded up the dogs and the boys today for a short hunt after work/school. By 7:00pm nada!  I told the boys "We are dang near gonna have to see a hog to bay it!"  We went to a place where my dad bayed some hogs about this time last year while they were eating blackberries.  We rounded the curve and a big black sow was eating blackberries in the ditch...normally not that lucky!  I eased out of the truck, collared the dogs, and the race was on!  Hillbilly came bayed about 400 yds down the road.  Copper and Boots were leaving the other direction.  I walked Jane to Hillbilly.  She started baying and I let them bay for about 15 minutes.  I killed the hog and went to the other 2 dogs.  Apparently they got outran and I picked them up about 1 1/2 miles down the road.

When we were going to get Copper and Boots, my little boy said "Dad, you told us a secret"  I started laughing....he thought it was a secret when I whispered "I see a hog" because he thinks anything that is whispered must be a big secret! lol   He is 4 and has just started going hunting with me a little bit.  His 7 yr old brother knows more hog hunting lingo that most adults.....he would go hog hunting everyday if I let him!  He came home tonight and told his Mom "We looked at the pork!!!"  lol

Cason(7), Jane, Copper, Boots, Hillbilly and Camden (4)

Thanks guys.  My Dad started carrying me me when I could walk good.  When I got old enough to hunt alone, he gave me some of his dogs to start hunting with.  I hope I can do the same for these boys.

I tell people all the time, this is fun for yall, for me, it is my life.  There is a lesson to be learned every time we get in the outdoors or mingle with dogs.

I had to laugh when I looked at the picture.  My Dad is a yellow dog man, he shakes his head when I pull up with a load of hounds.  LOL

I never knew how much it would help to just have someone who can load and feed dogs.  He feeds every evening when he gets off the bus, then does homework.  All the older guys love to hear him talk about hunting, you can already see the fire in his eyes when he discusses it.  I am truly blessed to have these boys as hunting partners!

I've got a 13 year old daughter, but she doesn't think I'm near as "cool" as I used to be.  Undecided
