I have been looking to buy some high topped hunting boots... what brand of boots do you guys like? I am looking for something non insulated and water proof. also i have a big calf so most of the boots i have tried on at academy were painfully tight around my calf.

Water proof? The water is always deeper than expected. I use jungle boots with holes so the water drains out with water wicking socks. That way when I get wet it drains out. I tend to always end up in the water. I keep sandals or fresh shoes and socks in my truck.

when its summer time i hunt in tennis shoes, cause your feet are gonna get wet just about every time and they seem to dry out pretty fast and it is miserable wearing a sloshing pair of boots all day long

For comfort and water proof, rockys are good til you get them wet a few times then they fall apart at the soles, because they are glued not sewn. A pair of rockys wont last me 3 months,  i go thru about 3 pair a year. But they are light, water proof, and comortable, just not durable.

I wouldnt recomend the red heads, they are not water proof,  no gortex,  and heavy, uncomfortable.

I recomend danners, they are pricey, but water proof, comortable, and durable.  easy to get on and off.

you will wear out 2 pair of rockys to one pair of danners, so in reality theyre really not that expensive.

I have to agree with the Danner's.  Google "Danner Sharptail Covey"

Danner's hands down..no other boots I've ever had on my feet felt as good as Danners. They're cheaper in the long run too.....they'll outlast 3 or 4 sets of Rocky boots and they stay waterproof and have one hell of an ankle support.

Danners are the way to go,I wear my pair 6 days a week all day and sometimes all night long! I have bigger legs as well and they are very easy to put on and take  off!

Do these boots stand up to the water? I am wondering if the soles will come apart once they are wet a few times.

I like the redhead for the added height compared to the Danners but haven't owned any of these.

Reuben - My redhead have held up good so far, and after the ankle area breaks in there like wearing a pair of running shoe's, i've had em for about a year ..
