Whether you are the first dog hunter in your family or come from a long line of Dogmen. This thread is for everyone to show your Dogmen heritage. There is no specific type of dog hunting required as long as it was part of your family's heritage and directly contributed to who you are today. If you like you can give a narrative for each picture to explain each individauls unique background in the doggin sport. The question is being a Dogman In Your Genes? Enjoy boyz. From the time I could walk and have visual memories I have been involved with hunting behind dogs. My earliest memories was riding the dirt back roads in East Texas with my grandfather as we chased a pack of fox and coyote hounds. I would get tired and remember my grandmother would make me a bed on top of the dog box in the back of the truck. I would crawl up there on into the wee hours and remember just creeping along after those hounds all night long. He would turn loose close to twenty plus hounds at a time and in four to five days would have everyone of them back. Neighbors would pick em up travleing down the road, a few would drift back in, we would pick a few up that had run the pads off their feet that had bedded down next to the roads, but they would all be accounted for in a few days. (Crazy looking at things now) These events burned into me the uncontrollable desire to stay behind a hunting dog hopefully for the rest of my years. My father ran beagles and LOL Deer dogs in the 50's and 60's and as soon as I was able to feed a dog I have had my own. My son is eight and has three beagle of his own that he cares for. I just hope that in the comming times that our family continues to pass this heritage down to our youngsters. This is a picture of my mother as a baby and my grandfather with his pack of Foxhounds around 1949. This picture is of my grandfather with a litter of running walker pups around 1945. One of my personal favorites around 1953 grandfather and mother. I believe this was the early form of hood hunting (Trunkin) LOL My grandfather and my mother's first cousin. Mid 40's Yep the whole family was involved. My grandmother with a pair of walker dogs 1955 The old pack early 50's or late 40's unk My grandfather and mother with a set of sure nuff leggy hounds 1956 Bench show in Camp Tawnkawwa mid 50"s And last but not least me in my underoo's with my pack of Beagle pups early 80's

Without a doubt Cole I know you can trace back several generations on dog hunters in your family. Get with your grandpa and dad and dig into the old black and white photo's we would love to see em.

Went to visit my grandmother today and showed her your pics, it made her choke up. She has been having alot of memory trouble lately but for a 91 year old Cajun she's alright she said those hounds reminded her of her daddies dogs. I knew my great grandpappa was a fur trapper his whole life, so I assumed he must have had trapline dogs but I had no clue when she told me that he not only ran coondogs but also picked up human recovery jobs on a regular basis (fugitives, runaways and murder investigations) I love running hogs with a fervent passion, but I've always had this wanderlust desire to tree a fugitive. Now i know why. Thanks for this thread, my mamaw is in bad health and this thread unlocked secrets that I probably would hve otherwise never known.

Moms side- My grandpa was a coon dogger, two uncles used to hog dog and run cow dogs, mom was a vet, cousin is a hog dogger. Dads side of the family, grandad had bird dogs, dad grew up with bird dogs. I think its in your blood, and once anyone else gets exposure to watching a dog work no matter what kind of work, I think it gets in their blood too.

Matt,
Those are some priceless shots man. Love the ole cowboy pics. Thanks so much for sharing those are awsome. I love looking at these old photo's of a period of time that is gone forever but hopefully for some of us youngsters we got to have the pleasure of experiencing the tail end of a truly wonderful era for running dogs. If we could only turn back the dial just a little, what a time we could have when it was wide open and accepted by everyone.
