What kinda range do ya ll get out of your Garmin with reg Ant? I get about a 1000 yards around here in Central TX.
What kinda range do you get out of your Garmin with Long Range Ant ?
I've notice that when I go to switch from Reg Ant. To Long Range Ant. I have to recalibrate my unit Compass. Noticed if I do not I don't get a real true direction out of it and when you go to put your reg Ant. back on I recalibrate my Compass again . I notice if I do this I get very accurate direction.
Anyway just wondering about you all .

Have you reprogrammed your collars? If not you should do that. I am gettting bout 1.7 out of my little antenna most of the time. Depending on if they are down in a canyon.

I think he means to delete them from your unit then add them back to it. Not sure if this is what he was getting at but thats what I do and I always get atleast 3/4 mile with mine

I don't have any pics. You might search on one of the big game forums, as I first learned of this antenna from a link that Bump gave me a couple years ago.
You should be able to go into any 2 way radio shop, possibly even radio shack and get the needed parts...
3 db gain antenna tuned to 152.5 mhz with smf connector. That's all there is to it... btw, the longer the antenna, the better the reception.

? The length of the antenna is how the tuning is determined and set. Having said that, the guy at the radio shop I went to told me that tuning the antenna to a certain frequency only has to do with transmitting...not receiving. He's the full meal deal..doing it for YEARS...sports a pocket protector containing lots of small screwdrivers and all that, so I figure he knows what he's talking about.

does the receiver not send info to the collars idk but I though they did especially if your getting inference and have to change the collar number? I may be wrong

Bryant, I don't wear a pocket protector, but I can assure you that a 102" whip gets better reception than a 6" antenna, and both can be tuned

You trim the length until it comes into spec. Might be 1/8", might be 4/8"
A 48" antenna tuned might actually measure 47-5/8" While a 102" antenna tuned might measure 101-3/8"
Your statement about a length being how the tuning is set is correct, however I read it in response to my reply that the longer the antenna the better the reception was incorrect...
when in fact, both statements are correct. a tuned 102" will work better than a tuned 48"... Why do you think the garmin extended range antenna is longer than the factory antenna? The simple answer is the longer antenna works better.
Sounds like semantics to me.

I just don't know why Garmin don't tell us all this stuff sure would make things a lot easier . I guess thats why . Hell if a man can get 7-10 miles out of his unit in thicker cover looks like Garmin would just tell us.
Sure would make their product look that much better. Go figure . Gonna have to look into that longer whip tuned right sure would be the thing to have.
