I have a dog about to have her pups and she is on a chain. I am now starting to wonder if the actual chain will be dangerous to the puppies. Has anyone experienced this or have any opinions? Thank you

Yes it will kill all of the pups, build a whelping box and get her off of the chain as soon as possible.

When my gyp had her pups last month i built a welping box and she didnt want nothin to do with it.  When she started delivering she freaked out so i let her out of her pen.. the pups kept her so dang busy she didnt leave the yard for the first three days (yards fenced but before pups she could jump 6ft privacy fence).  After she settled down i put the pups int he box and left the door open.  She figured out to get her butt in there on her own..

i live way out in the country but i like to turn my females loose when it gets time . they usually have them in a brushpile or hole of some kind and bring them up to the house at a few weeks ,  they know what they need better than we do .
