feel your frustration with allot of todays youth.. I gave a young man a pup about a year ago for free, it was going to be a cull if i had not given it away. anyway about a month ago the kid calls me wanting to get the papers for the dog because he had bred the dog. He said he could get a bunch more money for the litter with papers. When i asked if the dog was huntin good with his other dogs he said he hasnt been hunting at all and didnt have any pigs to start the dog on and wanted to bring the bred dog over to work in my pen??? This makes me not want to try to help any of the youth out. needless to say he did not get the papers nor did he get any pen time.

If a person makes a deal and then breaks it, that is sorry. If a person intentionally cheats another person, thats sorry. But if there wasn't a deal make where the kid was supposed to give the dogs back or trade back, if he didn't want the dogs, then I think that  he is being judged too harshly.

I don't know the kid or the guy that traded the pups for dog food but I don't think that this is the same thing as the Claude Ard thing.

If I were to buy a pup for a nickel or for 1000 dollars. Either way, it belongs to me and no one would have the right to judge me for what ever I decided to do with the dog ..... unless there was a verbal agreement to give the original owner first option at the dogs if I decided I didn't want them.

Maybe I missed something but the way that I read the original post was that he traded 4 pups for a bag of dog food and there was no other agreements made.  If the kid did the trade to turn around and sell the pups for a profit, that is unethical and wrong, but then again maybe he got home with the pups and they didn't like'em after all.

I wouldn't be too quick to judge without knowing both sides.

I think it all depends on what he intended to do with the pups in the first place and if hes lying about what/where the dogs are bred from...

If he picked up the pups just to turn around and sell them for a quick buck and lied about their breeding, he is no better than Claude Ard in my book... The only difference i see is that Claude tries to sell finished dogs, and these are just pups...

Now this is all based on "IF" thats whats going on, since its not 100% clear,

Thats pretty much what I was trying to say.  I'd hate to hang a man on an "if". But you are right, I forgot about the part where he said that he lied about the breeding on the pups. That changes things.

Theres probably just as many " older " people that will do the exact same thing....

You beat me to it

I was waiting for someone to post this. Smiley

I was a teenager around 1970 and I heard it then about how the young generation is spoiled and don't have any respect blablabla... Grin Grin
and I have heard it for every generation since then. Smiley Wink

However, I will venture to say that we peaked in 1970 as the best and the most respectful and couteous and honest  generation and we have been regressing since then. Grin

Well it gets to a point  to where you don't  want to help anyone. The old timers would breed keep what they needed and cull the rest.
x2 plus it dont have to be just the old timers i think its still good to continue today.....young folk included

I think this is how it is ,,, as I see it , with kids today. The worst kids are WAAAYYY worse than previous generations. But doggone , if the best aint  but all that gives me hope that we got a chance at all of making a comeback as a once again prosperous and proud Nation. I'm primarily talking about our brave YOUNGSTERS who have VOLUNTEERED to fight in a God awful corner of hel1 to protect our freedoms. I've never been prouder of young folks than i am of THIS young generation of warriors.  Now , all these thug and thug wannabe's ,,, make me wanna puke, ,,,, but that's my 0.02 worth.

You know some people like to take advantage of someone's generosity. I have always believed in shooting straight with people as best I could. I have had many people think I was stupid and take advantage of me. But I believe in staying true and give everyone one chance and if they do me wrong they don't get another.

Last Saturday my diesel engine blew real bad. Knocking, a huge smoke screen, and oil shooting out from under the hood. I called AA for a tow and started calling for a new engine. To buy one rebuilt would run over $7,000. A buddy had one pulled he would sell me for $400 guaranteed to run or he would replace it. Let those shady deal people try to find that deal. It was delivered for free. How about that deal? Then he looked over at my two wheel drive four wheeler that does not run and asked if I would trade it. So now I have a guaranteed engine delivered for a non running four wheeler. I have to swap the engines but what would have cost me thousands cost me a four wheeler I only paid $150 for and he knows what I paid for it.

Be honest as best you can and be quick to make things right if you mess up. Then people will step up and help when you need help. But you get a dog for a bag of food and then sell it? That may not be completely wrong but is it right? What is your integrity worth? I don't know what they are thinking but I hope they start thinking again.

several months ago I gave a pup to a fella I considered a friend who has raised and hunted several dogs from me and done very well with the dogs in the past. However this pup he gave away to a 19-20 year old kid. Well I wanted the pup back this was 2nd female pick of litter, and I have high hopes for this particular female along with the one I kept for myself. These pups were all given to friends that are all hunters for the purpose of hunting, not pets. Anyway, I find the kid that has the pup, and I offered to buy the dog back, explain to him how/why important the pups are to me, not to anybody else for any other reason but my blooded dogs. We talk and he tells me the dog barely knew how to walk on leash scared of stuff, and has not shown any interest in a hog. I again offer to buy the dog. He startas trying to negotiate a trade/swap for an older dog already finding hogs. I am thinking kid is nuts and explain I don't have anything to trade him but cash, but would look around and see if anybody had anything for sale. He starts telling me about everydog he has bought from classifieds somebody has srewed him on. that he paid $1000.00 for a dog that was a peice of crap. I keep talking back and fourth through calls and text over next couple of days. He basically lets me know that he has two dogs now that both were hunting when they were given to him and he got to catch a few hogs but neither one will get out and hunt now. Both came from different individuals, and I asked him he thought maybe he could have something to do with that? He got upset. I told him that I work with others dogs for a living, training and such. He is asking what I would charge to get his dogs hunting again I told him I get $350-$500 a month to hunt the dogs. He said did does not have any money. I tell him I will help him out, I will take him and his dogs hunting and try and teach him a few things and get his dogs some work.
He wants to know what I will charge him to get his dogs going like that I said well I will trade you the knowledge and experience and hunyts for that pup.  Told him to call me the next day (friday) afte lunch cause I should know where where and when we were going to hunt that Weekend. HE never Even Calls or texts AGAIN. I guess he thinks that pup is worth the price of a finished dog and that he deserves better or something. Anyway I am aggrivated young punk gets and oppertunity and BLOWS ME OFF?Huh???

So any of yall come across a silver/blue colored female dog for sale that looksd like a lacy, its not a lacy, but the only one that looked identical to its daddy (CHIEF) I would appreciate an oppertunity to buy or swap for the dog. I got a feeling she will turn up on the classifieds sooner or later.
