Did anyone catch the show on Animal Planet last night about high fence hunting operations? Its amazing how much common sense some of these Animal rights groups lack!

Dang it, I missed. Hopefully someone will remind me next time it comes on. So......what were some of the highlights? Basically it had a man and a woman going undercover to hunting ranches in New York and TX trying to film "hunts". It was funny b/c the first place they went to they wanted to get the owner to guarantee them a kill. The guy told them they were 99% sure that they would kill...and what do you know...didnt even see the animal to get a shot!!!LOL Then two guys went to an exotic stock auction and got hidden camera footage there. They came down to a ranch in TX and talked with the owner who admitted to tranquilizing animals at his customers wishes. It was typical liberal tree huggin TV. |

i watched it and i cant belive that the ranch guides/owners would tell anybody that they tranqed their game and pushed them in a fence to the hunter??? at least try to make it look real even if it is staged, dont tell the dumbazz client. and i cant belive that a client would even consider hunting an animal after the guide tells them which one they will be shooting ahead of time. people like that is what is hurting us true hunters

Ive never been on a canned "hunt" but et just seems kinda boring to me, but to each his own. Since some of them said that they tranquilize the animal, I would think that the tree huggers would like that......you just cant do anything to make those people happy.  Im glad to know that I could go to an exotic game ranch and shoot one instead of going to the continent of Africa. But thats just me.   I got a little off topic. They need to grow a garden or something, and leave us hunters and meateaters alone. |

i quit watching hunting videos years ago seems like they all hunt private ranchs . when they start doing that i lose respect for them. let them come hunt the average lease or public areas like most of us do and see if their kill rate drops. canned hunts are for the people who were never taught to hunt.

Hvacman....I totally agree with you on that. My daughters cheerleading coach's husband is one of the hosts of Outdoor Channels "Inside Outdoors" show. We got to talking hunting one day and I half-heartedly said that while I enjoy his show, I would respect them a whole lot more if they would go out on some public land for some hunts and get a deer. I told him I dont even care if it was a doe because to me that is a trophy on public land here in OK. But it would be nice to see some more hunting shows geared towards the every day working man who can't afford to go and hunt big game ranches. He graciously more or less agreed with me, because that is how he started hunting as well, but then he made his point that his sponsors want to see him on big bucks, which unfortunately I understand his position as well. Canned hunts or high fence ranches aren't for me, but in this economy, I certainly can't fault the landowners for taking someones money who is willing to pay for such a hunt. Some people hunt just to say they killed a monster, and others like me do it becuase they love being in the outdoors and the challenge of it all. To each their own I guess.

caught a good bit of it, i dont see the problem other than the drugging but still its the sport of it would have been kinda funny to see them get caught with that camera in the middle of the woods lol |

It was a ridiculous attempt at a hatchet job. They tried to portray things like their guide encouraging them to take a shot or the exotic livestock auction as if they were doing horrible things to animals and I just didn't see it. I was dissapointed to see the guy who tranquilized animals, but I've got no idea whether they seeked him out because they heard rumors or went to 100 different places until they found a guy doing that, or hell, they may have paid him to say it. If what they showed was the absolute worst examples they could find then I'm willing to bet there are plenty of people running reputable operations.
