Who all on here hunts with a GSP? I've been kinda interested in the breed for years. How are they for an all around dog? Anyone breed them? Got pics? Stories?

How would one hunt compared to a cur dog? Range? More or less drive? I think they're great looking dogs.

My step dad uses them to bird hunt. He has this gyp Ive been trying to let him breed her to my Rednose. So far no luck! I know a guy who has 2 or 3 of them purebred that he hunts hogs with. They are short to medium range wind dogs, SUPER GRITTY, 2 of them will catch about nething or at least try They hunt alot like FL Curs, I know another buddy with a few Bird crosses and there a little more long range. All in all there HIGH strung dogs, with a great nose and a good personality. I know everyone I have seen is all business. Matt

i got a female i was hunting a good bit and she was doing pretty good, she stayed out in front the whole time or like the guy above said pretty good at winding, but one of my other dogs must have told her that she was a bird dog and not a hog dog and has just about quit and she has learned if she stays pretty close to the fourwheeler she will get to catch instead of staying on a track

i have always hunted curs, nearly 20 years, but I started hunting a german shorthair pointer this year and honestly they are hard to beat... great nose, unbelievable drive and stamina... mine will hunt 1200-1500 yards average and has stayed with hogs 14+ HRS. i have been very satisfied and impressed with mine, gotta litter of full blood pups on the ground now and a litter out of a good cur gyp due any day. Looking forward to trying out the gsp/cur cross. Im still a cur man, but the pointers i have hunted with have been exceptional hog dogs

as soon as i figure it out ill post pics, but i can say dat birdogs are hard to beat my uncle had one that when rode huntin u had to do 35 to keep up wit um, an when he threw his head up and went in the woods u could just cut the truck off and get the bulldog ready cuz that was a caught hog. took um on the river on a island one day he bayed 11 bo hogs 150 or bigger we had to catch dat dog cuz after we flipped one he was gone and on another,

thats how mine is, and half a dozen others ive hunted behind... they have good noses and never slow down and are strictly business... Im a believer, and several people that have hunted with me have went and bought pointers... I havent found the downside as to why more guys arent using them on hogs, I know a guy that has one crossed with a english redtick, hes a great dog. I dont know about the catch dog type cross on them... there good natured and easy to handle and do a great job on their own, I crossed mine with a good brindle gyp there due any day ill post pics
