It's time to worm all the dogs again for next month and noticed a couple getting a lil thin so I figured I'd try some zimectrin Gold paste instead of ivemec in case they do have a case of the tapes. My question is how many clicks to use. The tube is just labeled in pounds and the closest is 250 lbs up to 1250. I'm thinkin' just a dime size drop or maybe a lil less. I figured that should get everthing ivemec does and then some. any help is appreciated.

The clicker does not work at all on those tubes. It is poorly made. As far as dossage, if you are worming 10-15 pound pups, a pencil eraser sized ball will do the trick.

Due to the ratio of Ivomec to Praziquantel in Zimectrin, it is impossible to properly dose a dog using this product.

I just did the math on the Zimectrin Gold (1.55% Ivomec, 7.75% Praziquantel) Based on the canine dosage rate of each (Ivomec - .002250 mg/lb and Praziquantel - 2.5mg/lb).  The tube is advertised to treat one 1,250 lb horse based on the horse admin. rate of (Ivomec - 91mcg/lb and Praziquantel - 454 mcg/lb).  Given this info, we can calculate that the entire tube contains 113.75 mg of Ivomec and 567.50 mg of Praziquantel.  The ratio being 4.989

Using a 60lb dog for an example, to treat tapes the dog would need 150 mg of praziquantel (60lbs X 2.5mg).  Divide that by our ratio (4.989) and to administer that amount of Praziquantel to the dog would be giving the dog 30.066 mg (or cc's) of Ivomec.  A 60lb dog needs .135 cc of Ivomec.  (60lbs X .002250 mg/lb).

Based on these calculations to treat them properly for the tapes, you would probably kill them on the Ivomec.

you can start at 4 to 5 months... Ivomec has 1% ivermectin and Zimecterin has 1.87% ivermectin. Mainly used for heartworm prevention but can be used for ear mites.
If a 50 lb. dog needs a 1/2 a cc of ivomec then it just makes sense that slightly over a 1/4 cc would be enough when using Zimecterin. A little extra will be ok but not much more.

There are other wormers out there for intestinal worms that are way better than Zimecterin.

I worm 6 dogs with 1 toob zimmecterin gold, enough for 200# horse each, including bred gyps, never had any problem and always come out with fat healthy pups. I wait till about 2-3mths to start the pups on zimmecterin or ivomec(which I rotate all the dogs with every 6 wks)
