I have a pit about six months old and I'm jw how you start to train him with out messing any teeth up or him gettin scared of the pig? I took him this morning and he paid no mind to the pig and he cane around and bit my dog on the side and he didn't want to come close to the pig again... Do yOu think this will affect him in the future..

I would wait a few months and let him mature alittle then try him again! It might also help to let another dog catch first so he knows its ok and thats what he is suppose to do. He is still a puppy and just because he dont catch now doesnt mean he wont at a year. JMO

i hope you can get rambo off just kidding man i shouldnt have let my dogo catch anyway dont tell me you dont know how to start a cd jake when he gets big he will either go in and man handle or not, i agree with the other guys on this post cd's are tricky and hard to come by and all he needs is food, food, food, and somewhere to sleep he would probably feel safer starting out with a 15# pig one hes a tiny bit bigger of. when the pig grabbed him today i was hoping he would try to fight it and maybe it would trigger something in his head to fight back?

Poor advice Obviously not trained many young dogs, this (dime a dozen) phrase that keeps coming up not just on this post but others too to me just shows a serious lack of respect for the dogs especially a pup that young. In my 20 yrs of hog hunting I found that the pride comes from raisin and makin something out of a dog yourself not just buying one that is already doin it. The catch dog is the one u have to lead and the one that takes care of business in the end, I want one I trust when I go to a hog and a bulldog mite b a dime a dozen but a good catch dog is not. He is young let him grow up a little, he coulda just bit the dog cause of all the new excitement and rucus and was probably just nervous it's not uncommon in pups that young he will come around I'm sure

i know he is a puppy when he messes with the other dogs but its not a good habit to fall into i hope he puts all his aggression toward the pig ive heard a story about a few people running to the bay and the catch dog was caught on the strike dog. the catch dog didnt make it home

I do believe that his post said that the pig bit the pup on the side and the pup didn't want anything to do with it after that. I am not sure why everyone keeps thinking the pup showed dog aggression. Let the pup grow up and mature. If you let him get hurt now you will for rambling sure ruin him. Too many people expect pups to act and be like grown dogs and that is just asking too much of them. Once again, LET HIM GROW UP!!!!!! A whole lot of bulldog have been ruined by people that wanted them started too soon!

I started my young pitt cd at 4 months this is what u do put some bay dogs in on the 20 # pig let ur pup bark at it till he starts building confidence 20 min 2 a week then let the bay dog catch it and let ur bulldog catch it when he catches it let him kill it then get him out of the pen forever feed till 12 months teeth will be ready run him in the woods works everytime

i do agree with that about age like i said i started my cd; in the woods when they was old enough to hunt after their teeth was set proper. lot of guys wanted to use my hog pen and hogs to work their catch dogs i wouldn;nt allow it cause i did not see the need . now i would let them watch and get fired up from the outside. while we were baying young pups in the pen . thats about all it took they spent more time learning manners than catching and after watching the pups bay . and seen whats up took em to the woods like i said at about 1 year old after teeth set good . bayed pig turn loose and wha la new catch dog. works ever time !!

Musta misread I thought said the pup bit the other dog I apologize. Still needs to grow up a few more months IMO before makin a hole lotta progress with him. I apologize for sounding hasty halfbree... was just a touchy subject for me from a prior deal no offense meant or none taken jmo but I think he's a bit young to expect a whole lot but lettin him have dog aggression is a bad deal but apparently I misread

no problem noell i dont ever get offended when talkin dogs i thought he said his dog bit his other dog too . long as no dog agression just take yo time let young dogs watch other dogs bay.ever time ya bay he;ll start wanting to be in thar withem. just dont let em start gettin shook around by big hogs while he is young and his teeth aint ready. i always keep them big ol cow leg bones in the bd pen for them to grind on keeps their teeth set firm and tight
