My new catchdog, "Connie Chung" is a very hyper and excitable dog, she keeps whacking her tail in the kennel and cutting it. I find this to be highly irritating and would like to have her tail docked, do you know approximately how much this procedure will run and will vets still dock grown dogs tails? I know the quick fixes and how to srop bleeding but I want a permanent solution.

before you decide on a vet let you last call be to Dr.Johnson at "Brazos Woods" Vet Clinic. he is located off of 288b and 2004 in Lake Jackson. He is the only vet around my area that doesn't break your bank account...

T bob,find someone that uses castrating rubber bands & put one on the dogs tail at the spot you want the tail docked.It will take 2-3 weeks
T BOB, put a castrating band on the tail at the spot you want to dock it.
Find someone around you that uses castrating bands on their livestock.Put one on the tail at the spot that you want to dock it. It wil take about 2-3 weeks to fall off. Heals clean with no stitches. BOLO

My vet charged 75 to do a tail on a 4yo bulldog gyp I had to have done. She was healed up and ready to go in a little less than two weeks after having it done.

T-bob i had a grown dog get hit bya truck when i was a teenager. The only injury he had was a 1/2 ton truck locked the brakes up on his tail. Took him to the vet since his tail had significant damage. they had to put him under, dock it then suture it closed. They also wanted to keep him for two days due to possble nerve damage. I know its not the same thing but its as loseas ive ever been to your situation. Id definately call around before making a decision on whih vet.

Personally I wouldnt do it being that old of a dog. Tails are there for more than wagging, the dogs balance will be thrown off for awhile, its will have a learning curve when it come to walking/running again and even more when it comes to swimming.

This is just my opinoin based on my one and only experience, 5 days after his tail was cut off he was back to jumpin the 5 foot chain link fence and roamin the neighborhood.. He was a stubborn hard headed son of a gun though.. so maybe he was the oddball.. |

Thanks for the input, im going to dock the tail, my curs and hounds have annoying tails but I can live with those, Connie on the other hand is like a ten year old boy playing with a bullwhip. That thing goes non stop and has her coated in blood all the time.
