been wanting to go run my dogs but it's still 97 degrees at 11 at night with 16% humidity. I don't want a dog heat stroking on me especially my bulldogs that are vested. How hot is too hot for you? I don't mind about 80 degrees but I'm thinkin' tonight is gonna be too hot at this time

down here we aint seen below 90 somethin, and the humidity is always HIGH.. We got alot of water on the ground right now though. My main strike dog runs with a vest aint had no problems runnin at night just make sure to break them after a run.

i keep tellin ever body it's to hot to run my dogs . the truth is i think the dogs could handle it as long as theres water around but im gettin old and i don't know if i can take the heat.

I think it depends on the dog. I have a plott that is very heat tolerant but my kemmer cur can't stand the heat.

We hunt ours 6am and try to be out by 10am. Dose not seem to bother ours to much. The bulldog can get awful hot if you dont watch out. We hunt around water all the time . Trick is no internal fat in them dogs thats why I have never owned a fat dog not even a fat puppy. Never seem to have much problem with the heat.

I know its too hot for me to hunt right now. We had several days over 100 degrees a couple weeks ago, and now days are in the high 90's and lows around 80 degrees. We are getting some rain now but the humidity is 90% or better. I don't know whats worse, the drought we were in or the flooding rains we are getting every day. Seems like there is no in-between anymore............ I have had a couple dogs heat stroke and have other dogs I was hunting with heat stroke also. Most recover but I think it takes something out of the dog once he gets that hot. They also seem more prone to over heat once they have done it. I say stay home, get the work done around the house, let the hogs grow complacent, then drop the hammer on them once it starts to cool off some......  Course, if we get a cooler drizzling rain day I may have to take the dogs out and let them exercise if nothing else. |

I'm with cracker.....let them get fat and lazy and the first cool snap....teach them a lesson. It's just too hot and humid here now.

16% humidity. Wow that would be nice. Just soak the vests in water. With that low humidity it would be like a/c. Just bring water to pur in the vest and keep em wet. We have the same temps with much higher humidity. I just watch to see how much they play in the yard. During the day they just lay around or get in the water. But as soon as the sun goes down they are all energy. So I will run them at night if I can handle it I know they can. Lots of water and cool down times.

They may get a little fat and lazy, but I prefer that over dead from a heat stroke, it's just too dang hot here to hunt, day, night, morning or evening.....the heat and humidity are too dangerous.

key is it just depends on what kind of shape the dogs are in, i keep my dogs thin during the summer months and fatten them up during the winter months

I only hunt the first few hours of day light, that is the coolest part of the day around here.
Feeding less to keep your dogs thin isnt going to help them in hot weather. Feeding less or feeding sub par food is more harmfull then high temps. Feeding them less then what their body needs means the body will not have the proper balence and will not function 100%.
