Talked to TColt today and made plans to breed my APBT Jane to his Dogo Soco when she comes in. Both of these dogs are proven woods CDs and both have found and caught their own hog on more than one occasion. I really like the idea of crossing these two dogs and wanted to get some opinions of others that have owned or hunted behind this cross.

No mistake there Blake, both proven dogs.  Ive hunting behind Soco allot and am a firm beleiver in that Dogo.  Can't say Ive been behind that cross but Ive sure been behind Jane and Soco.  And yes, i'm pissed off at my camera man in that picture!  Smiley

I was asking about this breeding on the CD post until I saw this. I am partial to rednose pits around 50lbs, where I hunt I need a fast quick dog that gets threw thick stufff but will anchor any hog. I usually lead my dog in till I can see the dog or get as close as possible. I have heard good things about Dogos but my only problem with them is how big they are, im no expert but it seems the OLDDDD Dogos were alot smaller or lankier maybe. That gyp is probly one of the finest pits Ive seen, if she catches half as good as she looks your a lucky dude  Grin I would assume this litter to be fast and quick maybe a little calmer then the average pit with good stamina and GREAT locking ability. Seems like a match made in heaven  Wink If you have any to spare send one down to FL.

Matt, That is exactly what I am hopeing for in this cross and Soco being smaller than your average dogo is why I like him. I would hope to get dogs between 60 and 70 lbs, good leg, good wind and like you said maybe take alittle of the Game bred out of em without losing the drive. I will be giving away any that I dont keep to hunting buddies but If I end up with any left I will sell to hunting homes only.

Honestly I dont really know cause I dont have papers but I was told she was Eli bred and by the looks of her it fits! I am not in to these dogs to make money so papers dont really matter to me as much as makeing a breeding between two good dogs.

that cross has been reffered to as "pogo" and Ray Modisett is the first I know that made te cross about 10 years ago so you may get ahold of him and ask him  about his thoughts on this cross, then Dan Moody might tell you how Dan Moody does his crosses.

They are both good looking dogs..
I hunted with some of those "pogos" that Ray Modisett bred and they were some awesome built , athletic, good natured catchdogs. Danny had one that was as good a catchdog as a man could ask for..

Trenton,
I seriously considered it but I think crossing her on Zig makes my chances of getting a couple straight catch dogs go down and Im really not looking for real gritty bay dogs. I dont know if you ever hunted with Zigs litter brother Tray, but he wouldnt even put a tooth on a hog at all. Plus I have 5 Zig pups now that I am keeping to see how they turn out! 3 ZIGxSALTY and 2 ZIGxSOKA!

Yeah i hunted with Tray, but i think Zig was the better dog of the two from what i saw..... i saw the zigxsalty pups that scott had at his house, those are some very good looking pups..... should have plenty of grit and hunt to them!!  Wink

Let me know if you have any left I sure would like to try one. Im trying to find an outcross for my Red Nose. He is almost 3 now and I am trying to find sumthing that meets my standards to breed him too. So far no luck, Im trying to find a jam up Red Nose gyp that is well mannered and catch's on the ear. If I cannot find one im gonna raise a pup and hopefully it will work out. This cross looks like something that would work. Keep us updated and good luck!!!!

X2 I seen jane keep up with 2-3 cur dog for at least a mile or more when a bay broke, when we got to them she was right there doin her job !

Blake- I don't think you can go wrong with the cross, I love Jane's size.. but a bit bigger with her drive would be a Catching Machine....

Blake sounds like a plan to me. I knw ur like me and love  a good well bred apbt  work. I talk to tcolt when i posted about me maken the cross and he made me the  same offer with my blue gyp that i took to the woods that day in emory if would be interested in trien one. Im goen to try and breed her as soon as she comes in.

And brian if ur offer still stands for using stew as stud for my harley gyp im am ready when she comes in. I would almost bet they would be straight catch or extremely rough!

Stew is ready for her man, when you are.  He steadly getting ruffer just like my red dog did.  He is right around 4 now and doesn't put up with much from a hog anymore.  ABout time to get him a bib i think.
