Spare me the BS. Show me the hog.

We started off at about 10:30pm around Lometa, TX at one of Rex's (Bump) places. Rex had had his jagds (Luke, Buster, Sis, & Nerd) and CDs (Jack & Rip) and I had (Mud, Levi, Cutter, & Stryker) and CD (Ruby). Rex also had a guy relatively new to hunting hogs w/dogs named Mike and I had my wife Cassey with me. From what I understand, Mike had only been hunting with another group in North TX, one other time w/dogs and it ended up  a dry run.

We started out by casting the dogs out and in a few minutes we had a bay. Rex’s Jagd Luke had one stopped and bayed, so we went to him and sent Jack in to seal the deal. Needless to say, Mike was pumped on his first hog taken w/dogs.

While we were taking care of the 1st hog, Levi rolled out to a little over .5 and showed treed, so we starting making our way towards him. He was in a rough spot and we had to walk in 400yds or so. We got in within 50yds, sent Ruby and Jack in and it was a done deal.

After the catch

We made our way back to the vehicles, rode up a ways and casted the dogs out again. They opened up about 800yds and were showing treed. We got within 50yds or so and sent the Rip and Jack in to close the deal.

While we were getting ol Bo loaded up, the dogs had rolled out and showed treed again a good ways off. We made our way to them and realized that we had split bays. We went to the closest bay first and caught the 4th hog.

And then went to the other to catch the 5th hog.

After a long walk back to the vehicles, we got everything loaded up and drove closer to the back of the place. We casted the dogs out, overlooking a huge bottom and the dogs struck again. We waited for a good 45 min or so while Stryker and Sis ran the hogs in about a complete two mile circle ending up a couple hundred yards from where we had casted them out. Talk about good luck, when we got to the bay, there was a good rally.

We sent bulldogs in and………..crickets……..Hogs broke and we hadn’t caught a single one.
We starting hunting the CDs down, when the Garmin showed Ruby treed. I made my way to her and got within about 30 yds and still didn’t hear a thing. Then I heard a grunt and a crash and the Garmin showed Ruby moving. I finally got her caught and she was cut pretty good in the shoulder, chest, and arm pit.

That is just about my luck, no hogs caught on a good rally and my CD got cut to boot.
For the guys that know me pretty well, I’ve been on a bad streak here lately with CDs getting cut up and being out of commission.  Not to mentioned, I paid $760 three weeks ago taking one to an emergency vet with a punctured chest cavity.
Well back to the story, Ruby is definitely going to be sore, but is going to be all right.

We finally got everything caught back up and started heading back towards the front, when we decided to make one more cast with Luke & Levi.
We send them out and it’s not too long before they open up. We make our way to them and send Jack in to catch our 6th hog.

After that we call decided to call it a night / morning. Mike was still pumped all the action and besides the one cluster f*&K, I’d say it was a pretty good hunt myself.

Here are few other pics taken during the hunt.
Mud has been trying some new tactics here lately. I believe he got this one from a Schwarzenegger flick.

Random pics of the dogs

Jagds don’t take up much room….lol

Good haul and very nice looking dogs.  Did the vest get cut through or did it get her through the leg holes?

Thanks for posting Richard. It was a good hunt and we always have fun on our hunts. There's nothing better on a hunt than pulling up to a ranch kicking dogs out ......wait....then drive to the bay. I did cheat on the first hog...I held Luke and drove around to a water trough and dumped him.

Anyone interested...the dogo in the video is gonna be for sale. Im about to post it up on the dog trade.

Good hunt fellas!!  Nothing like a long night of hunting followed by a long day at work!!  Dogs look good.  Maybe when I get done with this EMT class, I can come meet up before deer season starts.  Looks like RIP is more than capable of holding his own.

Oh.....& nice BO  Grin

They do ok....they can keep up most of the time and with most big dogs on long races. Every now and then Richard's dogs will pull ahead of them.

I mistook it for a different white dog.  What happened to the other white dog you had?
