I have no clue how to make it and last i tried i ended up with corncakes instead. Anybody got a recipe can tell me how?

MOM'S HOT WATER CORNBREAD
Self-rising cornmeal
Boiling water
Oil for frying (butter- flavored Crisco is good)

Nothing in this recipe is measured. Depending on the amount of cornbread you want to make, pour cornmeal in a large bowl. Pour boiling water over cornmeal and stir quickly. Batter should be very thick. Drop by rounded spoonfuls into hot cooking grease. Fry until golden brown. Drain on paper towels and serve hot. Similar to Hush Puppies, only better.

Does this sound like what you were trying to make?   I have never heard of Hot Water Cornbread before.

My favorite is some Jiffy Cornbread made in a dutch oven.
Here is some I made last year in a skillet.

Thanks, that's exactly what I did, I guess I just suck at cooking  Cheesy I can't believe you've never had it, that was breakfast lunch and dinner when we used to take pawpaw on our yearly deer hunting trip. He'd cook it in a cast iron skillet with bacon grease in the campfire. That was back when he didn't know nothing and I would rather been chasing split-tail than whitetail though   laugh

My aunt used to make hot water cornbread and it was just seasoned cornmeal and she would pour boiling water into it and stir until it made a thick batter and then she would let it set for a little while to cool and thicken. Then she would make patties and fry them. They were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.

I will get on facebook and ask her to be sure.
