Bryant I don't think I have ever read more true words than that except for the part my pit would not protect his own tail if it was not attached or there is a diller around lol
That’s a good thing. An APBT was not meant to be aggressive and was in fact in the old days culled out if it demonstrated a man biter characteristic. Some of the most famous and fiercest pit dogs in history were stolen right off their chain spots. Don’t get me wrong they will defend their family with no regard for themselves, but should not turn on someone if unprovoked. Their a reason that a lot of the old great dogmen kept their dogs guarded and that is because just about anyone could walk up and take them off their chain. IMO APBT’s becoming mainstream was their biggest downfall. People bred away from the original traits that once made them the most respected breed of dog in the US. There are still performance bred lines out there, but you have to do your research and your chances of obtaining a good one are slim to none. . This is one that I am using to breed CDs now http://www.apbt.online-pedigrees.com/modules.php?name=Public&file=printPedigree&dog_id=220339I bred the above male with a gyp from this litter http://www.apbt.online-pedigrees.com/modules.php?name=Public&file=printPedigree&dog_id=248664Which has produced some talented young bulldogs that are absolute monsters on a hog. These are high caliber bulldogs bred for generations based on their performance and producing ability alone. Gameness, talent, wind, fast mouthed, speed, and smarts are some of the traits that I look for in a bulldog. They are by no means a super dog and not meant for everyone, but I sure like em.

If you just want a watchdog...go with a pit. If you like a bit of a challenge, willing to do some research...sort through some BS...talk to lots of people and study some blood go with an AB. If your REAL froggy and REALLY like the research and sorting through BS aspect go with a Dogo. Good and bad in all.
You know am not to good with words but this statement here "If you just want a watchdog...go with a pit." is one of the worst I have ever seen ! Now I may not be the best cur dog breeder in the world and don't claim to be but my dogs will hold their own. But when it comes to the Pit Bulls I got a word are two to say because I bred them for 27 years and had many a many great dogs and am not pulling my on chain here. To say "if you just want a watch dog go with a pit" is a insult to the breed PERIOD let alone some of the greatest canine breeders that ever live! These dogs have been given the worst wrap in the world and still tend to survive and serve just ask the many on this board that own them and use them . These dogs have been bred for hundreds of years to be game and go down with out a sound , they will protect their owners with the most furious loyalty. A 30 lbs game pit bull will take on the biggest baddest boar hog with out so much as a squeal and in dead silence and his death if it so be with out so much as a sound. As am sure there are many many on this board can attest to that . These dogs were culled harder than any breed of dogs alive has ever been for two hundred years . You can go to the Dog Pound and pick up a Pit Bull that will catch hogs just as good are better than any high over priced hyped up AB are Dog's will what does that tell you ? Wonder why ? Because of there ancestry and genetics and the hundreds of years of culling still pulling threw the most scattered bred watered down idiot bred Pit Bull at the Pound ! Most of us hog hunters ain't got that kind of money to waste on a over priced dog with such a dangerous job and could be gone in a few times out . Tudor , Hinzel, Hemphill, Wallace , Trahan , Carver, Uselton, Corvino ,Colby, Henry this does not even start to crack the great breeders of these dogs in the USA and many many breeders from England, Ireland, and Scotland. The first pit bull was reg with UKC in 1898 but bred many many years before in other country's. I doubt very very seriously that any and I mean any AB are Dog's breeding could with stand this kind of test of time ! I even have hand paintings sent to me from the UK of pictures of bulldogs in the late 1700's. Here is your own words from the book itself . Here is your watch dog ! Antonio Nores Martinez, also wanted a dog that would exhibit steadfast bravery and willingly protect its human companion to the death. It was first bred in the 1928, from the Cordoba Dog This is not to offend anybody but to defend one of the great breeds of animals alive ! http://www.digitaldog.com/stubby.html

Yeah Richard I know a lot of those dogs and recognize a load of them even owned some of them. That is some very very well bred dogs for a lot of generations there. I can tell you one thing I would hate to be the hog standing in front of them . I can't believe you posted a ped something must have stirred you up a little never seen you do that before. I don't know man and am not for sure but it must be the heat !
I hope you get some size out of them dogs I think you will being bred the way they are there.
Great great bred dogs for sure.

Ha ha .....that's funny as hell. You done made ole txhogdogs and got2catchem all worked up over a typo... Got2catchem.....nice peds, some of the folks always slinging "game bred" for there blue, gatormouth scatter bred apbt's should look at some peds like that and what a game bred ped looks like. I have a real soft spot for old school game bred dogs and always will.

Haha...yea, the point of my post was that most pits will make at the very least a decent catch dog...not so much so with the others.
And as far as the "overpriced dog" comment, believe it or not there are still some top breeders In my mind (at least AB...can't speak for dogos) of true working dogs who aren't in it for the cash.

A true gamebred APBT. Hey got2catchem, they are some pretty good bred bulldogs. I have a grandson of that Gr. Ch. Mayday dog, I also have some other old gamebred dogs. I have a little red bitch that is real heavy on the Gr. Ch. Banjo and Carver's Stompanato stuff. I also have some Redboy/Jocko stuff coming off of the Tant's stuff. Pm me and we can talk some bulldogs.

TEXASHOGDOGS good post! I couldnt agree more. My grandparents raised pitbulls, it was the only dog I have been around my whole life. I have great respect for the breed and it is my choice of catchdog hands down. I own a 47lb Red Nose Pit right now that will handle any hog or die trying. He is not the Worlds Greatest but I would take him anywhere and everywhere to catch hogs. Blake thats a fine lookin Red Nose!!!! Im quite fond of that black gyp you own. Matt
