Well i got on the phone monday around noon and a girl that i went to school with talked me into goin huntin so me and the strack twins loaded up sam, yella girl, sniper and my catch dog baby girl. We left my house late and ended up arriving somewher around 7:30 pm. So we unloaded the dogs and immediately started huntin, well christy and the twins were ridin horses and christian and myself were on 4 wheels with my cd. We hit the first slew and it was so dry none of the dogs could pick anything up. Well me and christian walked around the slew for about 15 min. or so and found a good size track, well the 3 on horses headed around to the other slew while we were lookin around passing time. About 10 min. later christian and i started making our way over there. When we pulled up i could here sam my good bay dog about 100 yds. off in there hammering down along with cody christians bay dog. so we headed through the thicket with baby girl. I stopped prolly 60 yds from the bay and unleashed my 40 lb beast Smiley, it took me all of about 20 sec to get to the caught hog and in that length of time my poor lil bulldog had been cut extremely bad. I caught the hog and tied it without no light,, by the time christian got there i had the hog tied and had my dog in the water washing off cuts and letting her drink. She was completely sewed up within an hour along with sam (he had a big gash in his left hindquarter) we got the hog to a buyer that night and he weighed 183 with 2 1/8 on one side and 2 1/2 on the other. Nice lil evening hunt gone bad. Baby Girl died the next day around 7:30--She'll b hard to replace but never forgotten

it was too dark to get any pics of the hog but if i can get one from the buyer i will post it

A lot of people take that gamble this time of year.  Just a judgement call, would you rather risk the heat or getting cut.

Sorry for your loss. Don't beat yourself up over it to much. I've been running mine with just a collar due to the heat as well and it makes me nervous. but I guess you just have to pick your poison.

Always a judgement call on vest or no vest.  There have been dogs drown due to wearing a vest or caught in the thickets by the buckle.  Its just a part of the business we work in.  Sorry for your loss.
