Only thing I can think of is Gator refers to a bloodline that is the Alligator line of dogs. Plummer's Ch Alligator. But still real dogmen dont call them Gator Pits. G. Hammonds had a lot of Alligator dogs are Plummers Ch Alligator bloodlines his old Rufus dog , the Pig dog he owned, all the Andy and Andy L dogs come down from the old Plummers Ch Alligator dogs.
I dont know why people call any dog with a big head a Gator Pit ?
Also there was a dog name Llyods Ch Gator that come down from Gr Ch Boomrang bloodlines but never heard any real dog man call it Gator Pit .
That is just slang that people use is all it is . Atleast it is slang to me are any real dogman that owned pit bulls.
