Sunday we made a trip up to madisonville. Ive had permission to hunt this 2300 acres all year but we had been so busy with all our other places to hunt and just always kept putting it off. The boy that was taking me in there leaves for his Masters at Lousianna Lafayette soon so we decided to try it out. This place was gorgeous and definitely my mistake bot hunting it earlier. It had 4.5 miles of Bedias creek as it's South Boundary and will be very promising come next spring.. It was tough sledding with ankle deep powdered sand everywhere it was hard tracking on the pups. There was hardly any fresh sign or tracks but on the way out after covering a good portion and getting a feel for the lay of the land.. Drake, Ruby and Scar struck out.. My buddy Dane had his dogs down and they fell in. Finally around 800 yards they lined out and mauled down on this sow. It was coming along to be about 10 am and hot so that was it for the day. Can't wait to come back next Spring with some cool weather and moisture

Saturday Marshall Mims and I hit a place near Huntsville.. It had only been hunted once this year when Marshall got my dogs cut up and ended up with a sow.. So we took Girlfriend and 4 of her pups, plus another 2 young dogs. It wasn't 5 minutes into the hunt when Briar, Ruby and Scar were bayed solid!! The other dogs showed up and my my new Libby dog went in and caught, well that lasted all of a few seconds and the race was on.. With the bulldog already down I knew it wasnt gonna be long. After another 100 yards, we heard squealing only to crawl into the Briars to this big guy. It was a nice Barr, good teeth and close to 300. We decided not to keep him and just relocated him to a new favorable hunting block of woods and kicked him out. Great weekend for the pups and young dogs! This time next year they ought to be really rolling. Enjoy
