I have spent ALOT of money, time, and travel trying to get a start with these AB's. Well, to make a long story short, after all my misfortune, finally noticed one of my females starting to come in heat, so I moved her to heat pen, this morning. layed down for a couple hrs and got up and went to check on her, and she had, knocked her water over, and the heat got her.
Just really disgusted right now, and decided to try something different, cause I aint had nothin but bad luck on this adventure.

Sorry to hear that Tom. Was that the female that busted the big sow at my place? Never ceases to amaze me how a dog can fet wound up and will not stop untilmthey are dead. You think at some point they'd think " hey, its hot , i'm thirsty, and my water is spilled,,, better slow down"
I've lost several to heat stroke, it always seems to happen to the ones you have big plans for,

I have read a few people say there dog died because they knocked over the water bucket.  How hot does it have to get?  I live down in South Texas gets kinda hot down here.  I have had my dogs knock over there buckets, and have never had one die on me.   I know when I check em they just didnt finish knocking it over because the floor is dry.  Is the dog overweight or not in the shade?  If a dog dies from a few hours of no water how does it hold up on a long run after a hog?

Thanks for all the kind words.
Mike, no it wasn't queen,
Gary, it wasn't spider, that I got from Don. It was a nice little gyp I got from Eddie.
I had taken queen, down to Eddie's to get bred, the guy I got her from said she was due to come in heat any time. Well 7 months later, finally get her bred. But she didn't take. So, on my way back from tx, I stopped and picked up this gyp to raise pups to sell, to try and recoup some of my money from the huge stud fee I paid for queen. I dont even want to think about how much money i just lost.

I had two dogs in the pen that i had to take out, so I thought she would be fine, at least til I got up anyway. Had several dogs in the pen before her, never had any problems.

You need to get some 55 gallon plastic barrels and cut them in 1/2 with a sawall and put them in there as well as a 5 gallon bucket that has a way to be tied or snapped to chain so it cant flip.  The dog had to be sick to die in one day from turning over a water bucket, did she get whipped off from feed and water or shade in the pen or from a dog on the other side of the pen???  Got any rat posin out that  a rat could have eaten and crawled in the dog pen to be eaten or what about snake bite???  Something does not add up, could somebody have shot her???  Its 110 where i have my dogs under some trees and shade cloth to help them right now since its so crazy burning up, wish i had some way to get a mist system in every pen, sorry for your loss, dont give up, fix it up better and shake it off.  I have 2 self feeders in every pen as well to keep the crazy terriers from whipping off a dog while i am on road to leg rehab in san antonio.  I did the same thing with 2 water barrels cuase i dont trust any of the help i get when i have to stay over night in san antone.  We need a hurricane to break up this drought, i just got thru watering down the area in fornt of my keennels where the grass as died out, its like a desert blowing sand in the dog pens makeing them cough until i started watering to get the grass back and wet the pens down.  Just dont beat yourself up and redo your system better and double up on shade and water systems.  I would still look for a rattler or something, i guess you are in texas??  The drought is so bad down here i have to watch it filling up feeders, the rattlers get inside waiting for a packrat to come in them stealing dogfood.  Good luck.

Lets give the fella  a break! he just lost his dog he is not happy about. NO NEED TO RUB IT IN. I have been in this game a long time, I still make alot of mistakes. I just hope I don't repeat the same ones. Sometimes some dogs get hyper and bounce around cause they don't think they are hot because the see hogs or squirrels and stroke themselves and no amount of water will fix that. So it can happen in the kennel in the shade this time of year. lets give the guy a break.

It is unfortunate that his dog died, but I guess I missed the part where someone was rubbing it in.  I think some people were just stating that it might be another problem that caused his dog to pass.

in his defence , tom aint from texas , but him and his family have had dogs since the days of daniel boone , as has mine . i'll garauntee you that the dog didnt die from neglect ! could have been something wrong with the dog ...or  i had a dog chain one time in a place that was shaded all but one hour a day . got home one day and that dog was hot , got him in the shade and put his legs in cold water and puored alchohol on him . took a good while to get him cooled out , if i had been a few minutes later it might have been a different story .  i've seen it almost happen another time or 2 in this humidity .   it dont make since but i can see how it can happen , just like working , you'll be allright till all of a sudden and then get too hot in a hurry and can't cool out fast enough to reverse it .
