We had two of the pups tested for parvo and came back negative.  The symptoms were almost identical.  Extreme dehydration ..complete loss of appetite ...blood in stool..also the inner intestine silica was being passed and visible in stools. Took two full weeks for the older pup to completly pull through.  I had four on IV'S along with skin spot flushes every three hours ...still lost three. Vet diagnosed as corona. Not arguing Rueb I know you definatly know your biz all the way round but they were for sure 8 ways from Lufkin TSC. I recall specifically due to I was looking for the sevens and they were out so had to get the 8.  They may have just accidentally had em hence they were suspected of being bad. One pup had already had two cycles prior to this and still nearly got him.   Know it wasn't Parvo. Corona is only other I know with that close of symptoms.

We have dealt with some parvo type illnesses at places we have lived before and it costs us some money to keep those pups alive so now twice a year we have been rototilling the yard, then we spray it with clorox and then after about a week we break out the propane torch and burn up the yard, we have decided to flag stone the back yard where the dogs are kept and hopefully just have to bleach the area every few months.

Where do u get 8 -1 shot??

I get mine at rockys feed store in brazoria but they can be ordered out of any vet catalog.

some vaccines are sold as 7 in 1 plus corona virus. I call them 8 in 1. Just trying to get the confusion out. The seven in 1 is quite a bit lower price than the one that has the corona.

I have been reading where all these folks keep getting parvo in there dogs and I know I already made that mistake and haven't had a problem when I switched to the 8 in 1. I reckon the vets like making all that money treating the pups...

Just like Myles, you can get the 8 in 1 and it could be worthless if it hasn't been taken good care of like letting it get hot during transport. Local feed stores tend to take good care of there vaccines when they arrive they refriferate them right away...

I sure hope it is not a new type of parvo or corona going around that the present vaccines can not provide an immunity for....

I have been pricing straight corona vaccine to use on top of my regular vaccine. I have found it in a 10 dose vial for $3.90 a dose.  Plus shipping and freeze packs

not only corona but a HORRIBLE infestation of worms could mimic parvo PERFECT. there are a lot of others too... such as being poisened..by either chemical or natural such as types of grass or show crud... when I had taken my last parvo pup to the vet they actually suspected worms before parvo..its crazy how many things mimic parvo perfectly..

hookworms  seem to be the worst of the intestinal worms.

I didnt see this mentioned in this threade.

There are two strains of Parvo. The original Parvo that we all vaccinate for, and the Strain 154 Parvo which is not affected by the Parvo vaccine.

Unless you use the 154 vaccine, it can and will attack your dogs. I have a friend in Utah that had it go thru his kennel and hit all of his dogs, 6 or 7 of them. He saved them but it was an expensive fight.

I am vaccinating my pups with Neopar and the  154  Five Way alternating every 2 weeks on the vet's recommendation.

I have also been told that 154 doesnt follow the same time lines as Parvo, incubation running both longer and shorter. But I havent had that verified.

Thanks for the info there Bobby...I wonder if these vaccines are available at the local feed stores?

I agree 100% on the worms causing all these symptoms except the passing of inner intestinal silica. Only thing that makes that break off and pass that I am aware of is extreme virus that specifically attacks the intestin. Now I will go with poisoning as a possible factor but highly unlikely in my case.   Regardless it is some rediculous stuff that I swear with a vengeance I will attempt to prevent from now on.

I couldnt say about that Rueben. Since I was going to be dosing 17 pups more than once, I ordered online and bought in bulk.

I am going to tell yall  talking the cheap way out aint always the best and I have had my tail handed to me on parvo
we get our shots from the vet a Vanguard plus  we give them at 5, 8, and 11 weeks and then the pups are ready to head to thier new homes,,,
and that just the way we do business .. we have found that going ahead and leaving the pups around momma as long as possible she teachs them manner and making them easier to train and socially and working / training  you will come out lots better in the long run
    just my 2 pennies worth
