Hey guys I have a couple of questions that ya'll may be able to help me out with. Since I am fairly new to doggin' I am still learning a whole lot about this sport.  2 weeks ago I was the lucky recipient of 2 6 week old ybmc x plott puppies.  They almost look like red bones, and if I hadn't seen the parents I might believe the are.  My question is, on average what type of bay dogs do these crosses make, are they gritty, are they better at stopping a runner, what kind of bottom can I expect.  Also do I train them like hounds or like a bmc.  And last but not least are they gonna have that trademark hound bawl ( hoping that they do I have always wanted a hound type dog).  Also are these dogs less likely to be open with the bmc blood in them.

Very good cross, but you will have to wait and see, they could have any of the traits mentioned above.

i believe you got some good pups, IMO i would work the nose off of em, makes a good rangy strike dog, and they may have some grit to them so you just have to see what the personality really is to em

got some pics?

To begin with I love red...but the pups have the potential to be great hog dogs...

I've got 3 cur/plott crosses. All of them act a little different and 2 are even out of the same litter. You'll just have to see how they turn out but I love mine. Got good noses.

I do believe that the chances of this cross making exceptional dogs are much greater than most other cross that I know of. Give them a chance and don't be too quick to put them in the woods on a real hunt. They have to mature just as humans do before we take on the world as adults. Keep us posted on their progress....you might have some real hogs dogs in a year or so.

I am going to be patient with these dogs, i have just as much to learn as they do so it should be interesting, this is going to be my first time training pups. I also have a bmc x pit that is seven months old that will be running with our older dogs as soon as it cools down a bit, he has only seen a pig twice and is already starting to figure out what to do I hope he is the one in our pack to shut down the runners that we were experiencing this past spring.  Hopefully by this time next year these three will be one hell of a pack. Who knows with these three I may just have to retire my ab x pit catchdog
