I got a question for you guys I have a chance at getting a walker thats 8 months the thing is that hes been someones family pet those 8 months. would it be too late to get em started? im thinking it might be a good age to get em started since hes probably starting to mature. i think it might even be better since i get to skip 8 months of feeding. not sure though what do you guys think?

Yes i think you can...i mean a few of my dogs are and have always been our pets  and if he is 8 months thats a good age. he got to be a puppy. |

I have, and have seen some fine hunting dogs that were pets till later in life... don't mean a thing...
x2...and like you said the pup was fed for 8 months and he is at the right age to start. also a big plus if the pup has been socialized with a family with kids. |

i got a 3 year old dachsund that was a old ladies pet, now hes followin bacon trails and even chased and bit our training pig
talent comes natural and it is only hidden

I have a cat she was my house dog for almost a year got her when she was 1, she went to work with me. when i started her she would stick close still sometimes doesn't range out, but when I'm on foot she gets ahead and works when i tell her. And she is my most obedient dog because she was a go to work dog.

Personally.... I couldn't do it. There is something about raising a pup from day 1 and seeing it make a hog dog. Every time I buy a dog/older pup or someone gives me a dog/older pup it ends up going back down the road for reasons unknown, I guess I just don't make that "bond" with a dog unless I have raised it from the start.
So I guess what i'm saying is that I couldn't make a hog dog out of one that was 8 months old, just for the lack of caring for them.

Every time I buy a dog/older pup or someone gives me a dog/older pup it ends up going back down the road for reasons unknown, I guess I just don't make that "bond" with a dog unless I have raised it from the start.

a lot of times these older pups/dogs are someone else's culls. |

I know this Reuben, but i've owned a few of my buddies GOOD dogs in the past, dogs that I knew what they were before I got them, I just didn't LIKE them. I owned them, but they weren't MY dog. If you get what i'm saying.

I do agree with you that it just makes it better hunting a dog that I bred in my own back yard... |
