Hello my name is Devon i am 12 and live in Bowie Texas. Well my aunts boyfriend goes hog hunting a lot and he has got me in to it. I want to start but i don't know how and i guess i could ask him but other ideas are better than one. I was just wondering are there any suggestions on like what kind of bay dog to get and how i should train it. This would help me a lot.

The best thing to do is just ask around and get as much info as possible. There are alot of different people that hunt alot of different ways. Talk to your aunts boyfriend and ask him toi find you some good dogs. Take them hunting as much as possible and not only with him. Go with as many people as possible until you find your favorite way.

Don't only take my opinion though. There alot of people that have been hunting a whole lot more than me. How many times have you been hunting with him?

Like Texas Hog Dogs said, there are different ways people hunt and you just have to try them out to see which one you like best. As far as dogs go there are also numerous dogs that could do the job for you. You just need to find one that fits the style of hunting that you enjoy and take them hunting alot. Try going with different people that use different dogs and see which ones you like best.

Welcome, my name is Logan, I am 13, i am from tennessee and I would ask ?s ask ?s and ask more ?s thats what I have done. Although I don't hunt alot for hogs I know a ton about the sport. Honestly I would prefer the "One Out" style this style is less hunted but, this is good if you like to watch one dog do it all. One dog finds the hog and catches it. You must be very experienced to do this safely so if your aunts' boy friend knows alot about hog hunting and is experienced, if you can only have one dog this maybe a good way to go. The downside is if you only have one dog and no back up your in trouble. So you ALWAYS should have back up just encase. This is the one the majority of people are familliar the traditional bay dog and catch dog. This is kindof the median between the two Or there is the runing catch dogs which is basically a couple "one out" dogs running together sometimes with baydogs sometimes without baydogs. But if you are interested in just getting a baydog a good place to get a dog and learn more about the sport is at the WILD HOG EXPO in Halletsville, TEXAS. There should be all kinds of dogs for sale there trained and pups and there will be the bests in the sport there. I will also be there! Good luck getting started! JMO

Well, my advice if you're getting into hog hunting is to stay off the internet and get in the woods

Tx so true...Hunt with as many different people as you can and learn about the sport, how to handle the dogs, how to handle the hogs & the responsibility it takes to have hunting dogs. They are not the same as fluffy on the couch. Dont jump in to dogs hunt with different styles of dogs...( long, short range, gritty, or loose baying) Everyone prefers to hunt differently and as long as you can catch hogs your doing it the right way. Never stop learning you can always learn more.

well of coarse he will and so will his bothers and sisters. not to brag but we have not had the chance to work them as much as we would like and snort, ike, hanna, and jet are some of the best pups alot of us have ever seen! whats evwn better than that, just a few of us are the only ones who have this blood line. thanks to mark and that australain thunder down under (ranger roo's new captain - troy) i have two of these pups and will start working them every day. so for your ? yes he does awsome in the bay pen and for only 5 months old he is picking up the field hunting pretty quick. matter of fact just the other day snort and his sister hanna found their first pig all alone and bayed it for a while we sat and watched them before we let that bad a** willy loose to take it down.
