Im just curious if anybody has ever used a boxer or a boxer cross for a catch dog and how they did?

I have never used one, and probly never will. But I have heard of several that have, and liked them fairly well.

I have a boxer cross so far doing well as a catch dog. I have not tested her on anything above 200 yet, she leads good and u can walk off and leave her in the ranger and she wont make a sound.

I had a 1/2 boxer 1/2 pit gyp in the nineties....was the smartest dog i have ever owned....caught hard every time and gave 110%....she was natural ear dog and hardly ever let one out of its tracks.....she would be caught at the base of the ear and be standing beside the hog when you come in behind her....had a rough time with my (first) wife and got rid of all my dogs....she was the only one i couldn't put a price tag on so i gave to a good friend that i hunted with....he hunted her 1 more year after that and retired her.....he run a 2000 ac. ranch and was the only dog i ever knew of him letting run loose on the place.....you could talk to that dog like a human being and she seemed to understand every word.....she had one accidental litter with a reg. cat pup and had one male out of 8...Yellowblackmask ended up with the pup and used him for a catch dog and that ole boy died of old age on his place........

Well I just acquired a full blood boxer pup and it just got me thinking if anybody has used one...I would try him when he got older but he's completly deaf so he's just going to be a house dog

One of the most natural hunting dogs I have ever owned was a fawn boxer, he was my running partner in high school and would often chase coyotes and got a few cats. Man ol' Sarge hated cats. I would like to own another but do not have room for one.

about ten years ago we bred a boxer gyp to a blackmouth/ridgeback/redbone raised three pups,two did'nt make the cut one did.we called him 'bull''lol.made a very smart ,choose the right moment,easy handling rcd.lived to be five or six years old car run him over out at our old place.he was a sure enough catchdog,that would listen to you.

 This was that's boxers first pig was my old mans pet just took him out to see what he would do. They use them crossed abit back home. My dad use to cross some in his cattle dogs to add abit of bite without loseing too much brain as u do crossing a bull terrier.just have too sort throw them an get one with a deasont head that's not to scrunched up so they don't have breathing problems. |
