Ask me about CTO

I am not sure if this is the exactly right place for this or not, but I was wondering what kind of flashlights ya'll used? I have miss placed both of my 2 and 4 cell mag lights, and I need to replace them sometime. I was just wondering if they are the way to go or if I should spend the money on something like the Surefire G2 LED. I usually have things several years before I loose them, I think that had both of the other ones for at least 5 years before they walked away, so spending the extra is not a huge issue, if the lights are better, or if I should just keep getting Mag lights.

Thank you,
Chester

I always loose flashlights, but you can get the "upgrade" led bulbs to go in your mag lites.

I put a 1 watt led in a mini mag and it worked great... but those I hear those Surefires are awesome.

As far as use hog hunting goes, I have a 6v bright eyes coon lite. They have adjustable brightness. Brighter than a mag lite turned up and will last all night long as you keep it on the low side while walking. The 6v runs about a hundred bucks but you can get um rite on up there in price and volts to where it will burn your buddys retenas out when you turn to talk to him. Grin
Best part is it is always pointed where you are looking, keeps your hands free, and you cant loose em cause they are attached to ya.

Save your money and leave the Sure fire lights alone. I've used them and they are good and bright, but eat batteries like they are going out of style. And, the batteries ain't cheap. I've gone to using maglites new LED flashlights. I have a 3watt mini mag that is real bright, and the batteries last a long time. Plus, the AA's are pretty cheap to buy. I also use a 2D cell 3Watt LED by Brinkman(almost the same as Mag Lite, only cheaper). It's real bright and the batteries seem to last forever. And, that's comforting when you're in the middle of nowhere and your partners flashlight plays out. He suddenly becomes your best friend. I also have a Streamlight Stinger XT/HP that I use mostly for my job. It is real bright but the battery only lasts about 1 hour. It's rechargeable and the only reason I keep it.

As far as I'm concerned the new 3watt LED's that Maglite and Brinkman are putting out are far and away better, and more economical than any of the Surefire lights.

The one i like most is the energizer led spot light. Its water proof and last a long time. Down side is its big  if you dont hunt of 4 wheelers. wont slip down in your pocket. I have had all kind of lights and the surefires are nice for when you get to a hog but they only last about a hour i think. The light i had was a stream light and it lasted only 90 minuitres continues. If you hunt all night it will die quick. But i look to look for tracks and other things so i have mine on quite often. I would recomend anything with leds cant beat them.

Princeton Tec headlights work great for me and the other NT hoghunters I have shown them to.  They are waterproof, bright, lightweight, and battery life is good.(takes 3 AAA's)  Been using them for awhile now.

not all SureFire's eat batteries.  I have the E2L and it's an LED model and lasts roughly 30-40hrs and 2 CR lithium batteries and produces a beam of 35lumens.  Flashlight runs about $128

I'm a big fan of Surefire, but stick with their newer LED lights.  Like Marty said, the regular bulbs eat batteries like crazy....The LED models have excellent brightness and last around 12 hours of continuous shine.

I like Sure Fires led models too. The only thing I didn't like was the cost of the light, plus the cost of their batteries. But, they are great lights and last a lot longer than their regular lights.

Order your surefire batteries from surefire.com  If you have a friend or two you can get a better deal the more ya'll buy at one time. I can't find a better price on these batteries. If anyone can I'd like to know.

I like surefire's too.  My old model was a battery eater for sure but the new LED model is much better about that.  The LED model I have is the Executive Elite E2e.  This flashlight can just about run all hunting season on one set of batteries.  BUT if you lose it, you will be pissed at yourself.

I've been very happy with my 3 D Cell Maglite.  I use the standard light bulb.  I carry it in the nite eyez neoprene sleeve.  You can clip it to your belt or it has a strap you can slip your hand into and you really don't have to grip it.

Get the lanyard they sell for the surefires and stick it around your neck. I got the cheap plastic surefire (About $30) and the metal one and one will last me all nite for running up on a bay. Just walking around I got a cheap LED headlite from wally world works real good and has red lites that don't spook the hog I think running up with the CD

4 watt LED made by Task Force. You can find them at Lowes, they cost less than $30. They are bright, small, and use 2 C cell batteries. Got mine about 2 years ago. Now all my partners have them. I even keep a spare for a visitors to use.

I buy my 12 packs at the local Cabela's (item # QZ-516032 ) for $30. I don't know if that's better or worse   Cool  but that same $30 bought me three individually packaged batteries when I had to buy some at a gas station in a pich before a coon hunt a week ago.   Shocked Huh? Shocked

I use a small clip on light that goes on my hat for just walking around. But I have a rechargeable Mag-Lite that I use going to a bay or caught hog. Its bright, waterproof and lasts most of the night. You can also recharge it from the truck. I have a neoprene sleeve on mine that I got at Bass Pro. The sleeve has a clip on it so you can clip it on your belt loop to free your hands when legging a hog. Works great for me and I have only had to buy one new rechargeable battery for it in 5 years.
