Each kennel is 4x12 and i used pressure treated plywood as opposed to 2x4s for nothing other than to save a few bucks.  now im regretting it.  the plywood after 2 years is still holding up good but it has some sag.

John i really liked those when you posted them a while back.  What did the panels cost ya, ad where did you get them?  I built mine out of welded wire and im sick of fixin them from dogs tearin them up.

I see all of these have tin roofs. Is that for shade or rain. I ask because I dont have the shade most of you have and if I puyt a tin roof, its going to have to be 6-7 feet high so it dont radiate heat down to the dogs.

I have a few trees, but in years like this, they have about half the normal foliage and throw very little shade. I was thinking maybe some of that screen shade instead.

Bobby its alot better under that tin roof than it is without any shade. On mine the roof only gets shade the first couple hours and the last couple of hours of daylight and it seems to be fine. Mine are about four feet over the dogs at the highest point.

The lady that I bought all my kennels from had a mister sistem in them (that is the reason for the hard water stains) but even a water sprinkler on a timer on the roof would DRASTICALLY reduce the amount of radiant heat off of the metal roof.

Im a huge fan of the elevated kennels, they have worked out great for me and my dogs.

matt i know someone that use to put used motor oil on the wood floors  when she built her kennels before the dogs were put in them it sealed the wood  very well

Bobby, if you put your lathe close enough together you could lay some OSB or plywood down before your roof to use as insulation......

Dang Lamar

I forgot you should be mighty handy when it comes to construction.  Where were you when I was building mine. You might want to throw out some pointers for some future ideas on a serious note.

I was thinking about this some today. I used that pink foam insulation under the tin in my puppy house. It worked great. I would imagine that or the osb would work great.

Karla likes these too. Looks like a set is in the near future.

WOW--- they are real nice. I can see these kennels being much, much cooler then my set up since the air can circulate from the bottom---

I have a question--- what do yall do to prevent them from smelling?  Doesn’t the urine accumulate in the bottom(ground) when you wash the kennels?

I use pavers (stepping stones) and wash them down daily and TRY TO pressure wash them weekly I use odo-ban to keep the smell down and try and lay a nice layer of sweet PDZ it helps.

In the winter time there is really no smell at all believe it or not. In the summer if the smell gets too bad, i usually sprinkle down some lime to help dry it out. Has worked pretty good so far. Also, i try to wash out every other day to give the ground some time to dry out.
