Saw this posted on another forum - http://www.volhard.com/pages/pat.php - and thought it was interesting, especially since I have pups on the ground right now.

Was wondering if anyone on here has tried this method or uses any similar type of puppy testing where you actually go through a few test with each pup in your litter and try to give them a score based on different traits the pup is displaying.

would be interesting to see the statistics on the average puppies in a litter that display confidence or shyness.

Also for those who have tried it before, how effective was is as a tool for predicting how the puppy would act/behave after it grew up.

I am one of the few that say a hunting pup can be picked if you see them every day and know the strain.
Testing for trailing, winding and ranging out are the main traits I look for as well as finding. Then I try to never pick a dominant or a shy pup. It seems that the best and most intelligent pups are not hyper.

Then the pups should be socialized and exposed to different conditions.

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog...
