I see the yella dogs going thru the same thing the catahoulas went through about 10 to 15 years ago. Pups are being mass produced, young unproven dogs (and culls Shocked) are being bred and people are buying them up like hotcakes... all because they're "yella".

I've been noticing this over the past few years... y'all seeing the same thing?

I think all dogs go through it. Look at lacys, dogo, etc.
Kind of like how a lot of people are looking to breed bird dog into their cur dogs. Money to be made so people are going to breed some yellow dogs.

That's the way good dogs get ruined, I see the catahoula being ruined by bay pens and glass eye's and the BMC being ruined by the $. There will always be true dog men who keep, work and breed the better dogs but there harder to find than most people think. I think the really good line of dogs are rarely if not never for sale on the WWW or the  free paper cause " Good "  dogs sell there self to good dog men and good dogs are busy working, not producing 3 litters a year from the same gyp. It's just as tough to find really good BMC, hounds, heelers and Catahoulas around here for sale, the good one have homes before there ever born.

how is a cat ruined by the bay pen if it was bred to work in the pen? just asking. i know when i breed for the woods i want what works for the woods. im sure the folks who run in the pens breed for what works in the pens. if there heart is truely into what there doen. i feel like i know one of the best all around dog men of my life, he started in the woods but do to an accident he now works his dogs in the pens and is one of the greats the way i understand it. his dog of choice is a black and tan CAT. his wife on the other hand is one of the top women in the bay pen world and she loves her some good cur dogs.

BIG CHRIS I'm talking about people breeding Catahoulas for the bay pen and nothing else, no cattle, no hogs in the woods and they don't have any nose now and no hunt to them, that's how. They were once a woods working ranch type dog, now so many are bred to bay in a pen and nothing else, well except looks.

I know there are some sure enough working Catahoulas still out there but the Bay pen trend is hurting the breed as a whole in my honest opinion.

Very well put Waylon! I for one have jumped on the yella dog bandwagon but have been fortunite enough to do it with real honest dog men surrounding me.

If you buy the RIGHT yella dog you may, same as if you buy the right cat, or any other breed of dog. The person you deal with when getting a dog  is a lot more important than the breed..

Come on man, no one is saying that. Hell a hound may catch more than both. A good dog is a good dog no matter there color. If we went back to the old old days when both Catahoulas and BMC were only owened and used by working people there probably wasn't a nickles worth of difference in the two breeds except color. No one is trying to slam Catahoulas or say yeller dogs are better as a breed, though my personal opinion is that I my self see a higher percent of working dogs in the yeller breed over the catahoula, but you might go 100 miles from me either way and the oppisite may be true

There's good dogs in all breeds... I like HOG DOGS, regardless of color.

I just see the yella dog as the new fad... everybody wants one.

Waylon, the catahoulas were ruined years ago... that's why it's so hard to find good ones these days.
