hunting off the hood

kind of new to this and i see people saying they hnt the dog off the hood what is this

Hood hunting is ur dogs riding on the hood while looking for hogs   mine r hood dogs    i drive with them on the hood and when they smell one or some they jump off and go find it and bay it

some people rig there dogs    or  hunt off hood    means there dogs will ride on hood and wind hog while driving

you cover alot of ground and yur dogs dont wear out, and its easy on every one hunters and dogs. like when we get hot we just hit the old a/c button ,  climent control. but a lot of hunters or land owners like to watch the dogs on the hood cause its right in there face. but its still nice to have a dog that will range out for you in certian places.

We have always called it 'rigging' a dog, whether it's on the hood, in the bed, or on the dog box. My dogs ride in the bed of the Ranger and stick their heads out to the side and wind as we go.

I have wanted to try trainin my dog for that,  he is short to medium range dog but I mainly walk hunt.  Is ther any way u can start one on hood if he is already 3 1/2 yrs old? Not sure if he would have the nose for it tho idk I was just wonderin if anybody has started one at that age.

most all dogs will do it to some extent i let my catch dog ride chained to the back of my truck when we're going hunting and when i pull into the pasture or woods if he barks we turn out if you let your dogs ride in the open and they smell a hog they should start on there own . it would amaze some people as to just how good a bulldogs nose is . my old walker coon hound was great at winding coon or cat with out any training at all . i've never trained a dog to do it just happened . you would just have to teach em to ride without jumping off the hood at will . but like i said rideing chained in the truck works . JUST HAVE TO GET OUT OF THE A/C TO TURN EM LOOSE COME ON !!!!!

coyote hunter, mine dont come off unless they need to potty. i hood hunt like i was taught.i dont no if its right or wrong but , once on the hood they dont come off unless they strike or we move to a new hunting spot. they may range out 150 to 200 yards . i try and road them and they do good for 1 1/2 mile and then they want on the hood. ill hook u up with a pup and come hunt with you, ill bring my hood crew and will put them to gather and drive around and shoot the bull.

I've never had a strike dog that wouldnt hood, they go wild when they smell a hog then cut em loose, not much to it

From my experience with OKlahoma game wardens hood hunting in oklahoma is illegal because the dogs are in the drivers view. We had them on the front of the fourwheeler and he still said it was illegal. He let us go without a ticket but said that we were lucky it wasnt another warden. Just a little info for you oklahoma guys that didnt know. Im not sure what the law is in Texas because the game warden where I hunt normally leaves us alone.

It is illegal and they can write tickets in oklahoma  our sherriff and game warden r pretty cool though  they pulled me over bout two weeks ago and just said theyd let me know if it gets to where they have to inforce it

Ain't had no problems yet...knock on wood. I can usually see someone coming before they know I'm there and I'll pull off just so the dogs don't come off and get smoked. I started to train mine to stay on the passenger side though lol. Not really but that's where they ride most of the time.
