I have a 5 mth old Pit/Cat pup.. She is REALLY shy.. When she is in a pen she will come to me, but once I let her out there is no catching her!! I was just wondering if y'all think she will get used to me and quit being so dang shy...? Oh yeah and I have only had her for a week and a half.. Thanks!!

I got a pair of redbone/curs that will jump all over you in the kennel but you open the door and let them out you're going to play he!! catching'em until they get tired of checking everything out. Which is good they haul a$$ and don't give a care as to where I'm at..their 3.5 to 4 months old..just let her run as long as she knows where her kennel is and will load up you're good..

Some dogs just seem to be naturally like that, no matter how much time you put in them... I don't like it... hard to reward a dog that doesn't want to be around you...
One on one time would be my advice... bring the dog into your world for a bit, everywhere you go, it goes... might help it bond a bit... I do it with all the dogs I choose to keep

Yeah but shes not checking stuff out.. It's like she is scared of me.. I have done nothing but pet her and try to get her used to me but once I let her go she will follow me around and stuff but once I turn around to grab her she takes off.. I went hunting Monday night and I took her and I led her cuz I didnt want her to run off and my ol' bluetick bayed up and I ran her to the bay and she saw the hog and got all excited but when I unclipped her from the lead she took off the other direction like I was gonna kill her or something.. I didn't see her again till yesterday evening at my pens and the only reason I caught her was cuz I had other dogs right by me and I caught her slippin..

keep her on a chain and not in a kennel, pack of hot dogs will work too and just coach her to you and then let her get closer and closer

Thats about as frustrating as I gets right there. If you've got the patients, may just take her a little while to figure out whats going on. If she will follow you, just unsnap her way before you get to the bay, and let her go in on her own.

yep serious...I gave this dog away to an old man down the road when I was 12yrs old, it was a rabbit dog. This dog looked like a fox and acted like one too, you couldn't get near this dog. I got tired of jackin with it in short time so I gave it away. This old man tied the dog up for a couple of days and I was walking by his house and I saw him petting the dog so I had to ask how he did it and he told me about pissing in the dogs water..true story..now if it works or not, I'm not sure but it seem to on this wild a$$ dog I gave away..

x2...and the dog whisperer says to take the dog on some long walks on leash..should help. I haven't had any luck trying to tame down an older pup and do not like keeping these type unless they are above average. These kind of dogs will leave out if someone new is at the bay or if a gun is fired these dogs are long gone etc. etc. just a pain in the but. good luck...

I knew an ol cowman who said the same thing. He always had a handful of dogs that all seemed pretty good, but they really were one man dogs. He handled them and he caught them, if you tried you were either gonna run around all day or get your a$$ ate up.

chaining the dog up will speed up teaching the dog to lead. another thing to try once the dog settles down some, and is used to the lead, is for you to put the dog on a long rope and call her/him and gently coax em to you and reward with a treat. not sayin it will work but worth a try.

Good luck i had a dog just like what you are talking about i tried everything with him for months. I left a long weed eater string on him all the time just to be able to catch him one day i went into his kennel to feed and i just stood by the food to see if he would come near me to eat, he went crazy and bit me that was his last day. I will not own another dog like this. Good luck just be careful!
