It was almost a year ago that this hog killed Patrick.  He usually shows up around the last of August and stays around on this place for about 3 months eating deer feed and chuffas. You get about one chance at him and after that he's gone and won't be back for a long time..I was sure hoping he would show back up this year and sure enough he did. The landowner called me about 2 weeks ago and said he had pics of him on his game cameras. I wanted to go after him as quick as I could so I loaded up Thursday mornin and went by myself, none of my buddys could get off work.. I took Rain, Tiny and a year old bulldog that had  only been huntin once and never been on a bad hog.
I found his track and dropped them and they left. I'm not even sure where they jumped him but about 20 minutes later they were movin fast toward the river which is what this hog always does, he swims the river and is gone.. The river is high right now and there is no way I could swim it with the current as hard as it is now so I was gonna try to cut them off but they turned and started down river. Went as far as I could on my 4 -wheeler and came to a huge flooded bottom. I checked the gps and they were 600 yards down the river and it showed them sittin down, cut the 4 wheleler off and they were hammerin right on the river bank. Luckily they have a little boat laying right there so I throwed it in the water and grabbed the bulldog and started paddling that way, got to the other side and they were still about 300 yards from me . Got within about 50 yards and I could already smell him and hear him runnin the dogs. I eased up to where I could see him and I knew it was him. I sent the little bulldog and he met her halfway and sent her flying up into the trees, she looked like a coon falling back down out of the trees and hit the ground with her leg pouring blood and she came runnin back to me. Well I knew that was it for her. I eased back out wondering what the hell I was gonna do and started calling some buddies about getting another bulldog and meeting me but the closest one was about an hour away. The landowner has a buddy that lives right down the road and I knew he had a house full of guns so I said I guess I'll just shoot him, either way I was not lettin that hog get away.. I called him and told him to bring a rifle and meet me and he said he had a big red half bulldog half curdog that  might would catch him so I said bring him on even though I didn't think for one second he was gonna catch this hog. Went all the way back and met up with him and went all the way back, took about an hour but when we got back Rain and Tiny were still hammerin on him. We eased back in there and against my better judgement I was gonna let this big yard dog have his chance. We turned him loose and he went runnin up to Rain and Tiny and the hog t - boned him before he ever knew what happened. That big red sucker swung around and caught the hog on the side of the head like he had been doin it his whole life. I was right there on top of him and grabbed the hog's back legs. The guy with me was hollerin you want me to shoot him, you want me to shoot him, lol. I said yeah just don't shoot me. He downed him with the 30-06 and this big red yard dog never turned loose, had to break him off the hog. Both the hogs wetters were about rotted out.
Anyway, sorry for the long story but I've been after this hog for a year now.
RIP Patrick

Chain,

Today aint a good day for joking.  I'm serious when I say congrats on your victory. I know personally you'd love to have your dog back, but it very rewarding to know the next generation has progressed to avenge his loss.  Super glad you got him handled. Well done friend.  Grin

Glad you got em Matt... Personally a battle that's been going on that long and with the loss of Patrick he'd be on my wall.  It's not about the teeth, color, or size as much as the memories that go along with that hog. Congratulations.

Fellows, nobody but a dog man would understand......

Patrick was one of my favorite dogs of all time......all heart and had an intensity that you just don't see but in a select few dogs!
It hurt when we lost him.........
I had a rush of emotion that left me misty eyed when Matt sent me the pic and told me he had finally got this sucker!
ESPECIALLY with Rain being able to get it done!!!!!

I raised her in the house until she was 5 months old and then still let her run in the yard and in and out of the house until I let Matt get her. There is nobody I'd rather have hunting her than him and he knows it!

GOOD JOB!!
