i just wanted everyone to know that the snakes are out, at least over here in east texas...........i just lost  the best dog ive ever owned to a rattlesnake...........yesterday the dogs bayed and caught in a stream on a 100lb sow, when all the commotion was over i saw amos my walker layin up on bank, when he got up he was limpin and i could see that his leg had swole up a little.........needless to say i got him home cleaned him up and found a small cut that i believed to be from the sow, i gave him a shot of penicillin and called it good, i got up this morning and his left side was swollen.......rushed him to the vet where he had a seizure and died of massive coagulation......ends up he had been bitten 6 times by what the vet believed to be a rattlesnake.........worst day of my life........i dont wish it on anyone, just lettin ya'll know if ur dogs actin wierd dont sit back and wait......thanks guys and happy hunting

I sure am sorry to hear that, I really dislike all snakes.  I have had several close calls while hunting in west Texas and even had a dog bit while in his kennel out there.  Most rattlesnakes seem to play for keeps....

Was it a timber rattler?  I've had them bit by those before and make it, though never six times.  Sorry about your loss.

the vet didn't specify what exact type of rattlesnake it was.....i'd imagine a timber rattler, ive never seen a pygmy or diamondback this far east but who knows, all i know is that before this i never cared about a snake one way or another but now i have a reason to kill every last one of em.........and guys thanks alot for the kind words...and yea amos was the male that i spoke so highly of that i bought the gyp to breed with.........funny how things play out ain't it.........who knows maybe it happened for a reason.....she's got some big shoes to fill and we are gonna find out tomorrow how much fillin she can do.........i'll let ya'll know.........also if anyone knows of a walker male around a year old thats been started on hogs for sale i am interested.....i have a feelin amos spoiled me but id sure love to find somethin close.......thanks guys and be careful out there.

The vet isnt sure but all we know is it was nerological. has any one ever had this problem ? our only other guess is poison !!! either way it was bad. he did pull through after 4 days on iv drip.
