Oh, and I forgot to mention that one time the bay broke right before he got there and he passed the curs up and ran out 65 yards and caught the hog. LOVED IT!  Grin

The thing is, I want to be sure on his breeding so that I can try to duplicate it. I know that it will be a different dog but I want to get close.

Hahaha, I looked at some when you first mentioned it.  Grin.... and dane/mastiff, pit/dane/, pit/mastiff,
ab/mastiff.... you name it, I have looked at it. Right now Im leaning towards either pit/dane or pit/mastiff. He could have been ab/dane, I couldn't find any pics that looked right though.

No, I wish thats how he went. He broke his snap and went after a deer or hog (we saw something cross in front of us) and jumped out of the truck between the truck and trailer while going down the road right in a curve.

Heck, he was on some bad hogs and I think I can only remember him getting cut once.

Thank you for that pic Middleton. I think thats a pretty good representation of that breed. That is what VooDoo looked like except that he had cropped ears and was a little thicker. But as we know, every dog is different in that department depending on who there parents are. I guess my vet was right.  Smiley

Huey(middleton) has probably the best dog to come out of that cross i have ever seen. Has founds plenty of his own and has produced huge boar after another.

Ours was very gamey also. Im assuming they get their gameyness from the pit side. We used him as a lead in catch dog because if we turned him loose it was hard to get him back unless he was on a hog and we didn't want to chance him going onto someone elses property.

I have had two pit/danes. The first was Buddy who sounds like he was very much like Voodoo. We loved that dog as a hunting dog and as a friend. I didn't go anywhere without him. He got run over in front of the house last spring. The one I have now is Betty. She has caught 5 hogs so far and is more intense and hard catching every time. She doesn't have the hunt that Buddy had at this point. She will come back after a while if the bay breaks. Buddy was in the race for good if the bay broke, and I also caught hogs with just him running loose. I would love to get a pup if someone makes this cross. I have considered getting a dane female and doing it myself. I don't know though whether it would be better to breed a female pit to a dane stud?Huh? They are fast, which is nice in open country. Watching one chase down and catch a hog in an open field is pretty cool. I would post pics but don't have internet on the computer any more and haven't been able to figure it out from the phone yet.

I would think female pit with a male dane. I want which ever one makes the thicker built dog.

If you want them to be tall then cross the male pit on a female dane, if you cross over a female pit you will get the height of the pit, at least that is how it works with lurchers when they are crossing pits over greyhounds. I have seen some "bully bred" pits that looked very simialar to your dog before the fad for the short thick can't breath ones came in. They obviosly had something else crossed in them somewhere. I would cross a good game bred pit male on a thick dane or mastiff if I was looking to do the cross. Oh and sorry to hear about your dog that is a terrible way to lose a good one.

This female is 1/4 Great Dane- 1/4 Pit and 1/2 Jack Russel. She is the best yard dog ever. We want to cross a good cur with her, she is a little too small to hog hunt. Thats obviously a blue tick on the left. A boxer accidently bred that blue tick and the pups she threw love a hog.

it had the head shaped just like that one and the body was all muscle like the one in your picture but it was big and tall
