Does anybody else use gravel/washrock in their kennels?  I use #1 or 2 washrock in mine and I really like it.

Gravel works real well kinda serves as a huge litter box real easy to clean. The only draw back is that on a hit day the rock gets real hot and holds the heat for a long time

I have plywood floor in my kennels. Left the front two feet open and filled with pea rock. Dogs use rock. Easy to clean. Every month I'll bleach the rock and add more as needed.

Helps keep the dogs feet toughened up. I have had trouble with both wood and sand letting their feet get too soft.

You keep your kids in the kennels too. Now that is a great idea. Grin

add some rock salt to the gravel it will both help the dogs feet toughen and help reduce the parasites

dub,  I let them out in the evenings to run around.  The little one is in to "scooping the poop",  I bet this phase doesn't last long.

My gravel is about 4 inches deep.  I have 4"x4" panel under it and road base gravel/clay on the bottom.

It lasted a couple weeks for me. Sure was nice though. I guess I could let mine out to run around every other day. Don't want them getting spoiled.

I was thinking about some gravel. This drought it is too dusty. Now a little water fell and it is all mud. Mine is temporary to I did not want cement.

What is the cost of gravel compared to wood?

The load of gravel I just got cost $140.  My three kennels are 10x20 (total area).  I figure one load of gravel will completely fill them at least 5 times.  I refill mine every year.  The last load of gravel lasted 5 years, but I used it in the flower beds also.  I haven't priced any lumber in awhile.

I spent around $300 on my wood platform that has room for 4 kennels but I used 2x4s and it's 15 inches off the ground. So far its easy to clean and has no smell . I might put some grip tape on part of the floor to rough up there pads.
