Well I just started hog hunting about 8 months ago with Buddy and Michael Sherrill, Buddy has been talking to people all over the place trying to get me set up with some dogs. Well he has found dogs here and there and I currently have 14, most of them are young dogs that have just started. I have 2 good catch dogs and 1 awesome strike dog (smoky) that I picked up from Glenn Hesseltine, the rest are in the process of turning into good dogs. Well last night Me and my Dad wanted to go hunting but we usually go with Buddy and Scooter and take some of there dogs to go with mine, well Buddy was at his house in Beaumont and Scooter was just being lazy lol. So we took what we had and headed to the woods, I wasn't to confident on catching a hog since I only had one good strike dog. Soon as we got there we spotted a good size hog standing in an open field, we cut loose Smoky, Smiley (my help dog), a greyhound X(Gwetto), and Tank. They winded the hog and the race was on, about 15 minutes later they had him stopped and I knew Smiley had latched on so I cut loose my catch dog Spike and he ran in with me behind him.  I ran about 1200 yds and came to a brush pile, the hog was backed in to the pile, as I got closer I saw something that made me laugh. Spike was latched on the hogs snout and the hog was picking him off the ground each time he threw his head trying to shake him off, but for a little dog Spike has alot of heart and wasn't letting go. Smiley had the hogs right ear ripped off and was working on the left when I went in and flipped the hog. My Dad held off the dogs while I stuck him. I don't know about my Dad but I was more proud of my dogs than anything, this hog was the first one we had caught just with our dogs and turned out to be a pretty good size one, the Boar weighed 215!!!

Congrats!

One of my favorite hunts was the first time I went with just my dogs and caught a hog, he wasn't huge, but I knew at that moment, that my dogs could produce, and it made me proud.

Looks like Buddy has got you setup with some good dogs.

I bet Scooter wishes he would have gone now Grin The Scooter I remember was always up for a hunt, maybe he is getting lazy now Shocked
