Thinking of putting my dane/pit over a dogo. My dane/pit hunts and is straight catch. The dogo catches but has only been hunted loose once. He weighs 90lbs and she is around 70. Any opinions from folks who use RCDs?

i think a dogoXgrey hound or dogo X stag would be better, if you going with dogo , but you want to find something with a little nose , i wanna bred my pit to a grey hound or stag , he can wind a hog pretty good but i think if i had somthing with a lil more nose that would be great , great danes , i havent seen any that were very fast , they are not near as fast as a grey hound or stag

My dane/pit has a fairly good nose. I've seen him wind hogs from the road. I'm not worried about speed. I'm looking for power and drive. This breeding is part of a bigger breeding plan.

A friend is hunting her on a big plantation. Gonna try talking him into breeding her to stag/Airedale.

I think this would be a great cross. If you have a stagXdogo I think it would be even better. You would keep plenty of power with those four breeds and bring more speed to the equation. Most Danes I have seen got some speed but not much agility. Throw it to the stag cross if you can, all the drive and size in the world ain't gonna make a difference if the dog can't catch up to the hog.
Some Dogos are real fast and some ain't quite got it. How is the Dogo bitch built? 70 lbs, and how tall. What's her confirmation like? Long neck, long legs are a big bonus for this type of dog, makes it easier for the dog to have a clean holding style and steer clear of cutters. Try and put her on some pigs in the open and see what her speed is like.
The way I see it, you need dogs with good speed and good lounge along with the drive. The speed needs to be way up on the list though. The difference in a dog catching a hog before a tree line and five hundred yards into the tree line can be a huge difference in time from caught hog to hog on the ground.
There is alot to consider when doing any kind of breeding. I would keep my goals small and achievable for every breeding, keep as many pups as you can, and cull hard.
How are you planning on using these dogs? Hay fields, woods? I'm really interested in your breeding plans, keep us updated!

Hunting woods and swamp. I eventually HOPE to produce 75-85 lb athletic, straight catch, hard hunting, winding dogs.

I would go with a straight Dogo or catdo. Raw Speed won't play as big of a role as agility in those situations. But for sure select the faster dogs from what you have to breed from. Try breeding for a little bit bigger dogs at first (upper end of the size you mentioned) and then line breed to get consistency and bring the size down a bit.

i had a male dogo who weighed in at about 105 pounds and he was one of the best dogs i ever had. till a gator got em, he could run for hours and still have enough energy to hold the hog till we got there. i bred him with my slinder female dogo whos all legs and they turned out some great pups.

Sounds like a good mix to me, in a year or so ill be lookin for a female to breed to me pit/ridge/fla cur. He's got a big block head can wind and run all night oh yea and he hits like a freight train. He's all legs, and weighs 84lbs hunting. I would go for it if they are both proven .
