you can keep a bottle of vitamn K and give it to them in the vein and the mussle dont over do it, but the best thing is pressure on the artery untill u can get to the vet!!!! the vitamn k helps clott the blood~

artery clamp. It is like a staple gun with a long end to go in deep if needed and it clamps a staple around the artery and stops the bleeding. That way you can staple or stitch right away and don't have to hold the clamp and worry that it will start bleeding again after you have closed the wound. My father was a large and small animal vet and I started helping in surgery when I was about 12 yrs old. My cut box is a little bigger than average. I even have a x-ray machine.

Paul that sounds like something i would like to add to my kit. is the artery clamp something you could put on a dog and carry them to the vet? or does it need to be taken off pretty quick?
i ride a horse so im limited on getting a dog out of the woods,i have left them near a road and came back for them, but most of the time i carry them on my horse. i have forcepts but its not something you can leave on them. most of the small bleeders will stop with some pressure and wrap up with vet wrap and get your dog back to the truck.

It is used to stop the blood flow by sealing off the bleeder and the staple stays on you can't get it off. I will take a picture of mine today and post it for you to look at. You can just use a locking surgical clamp and leave it on for a while.
