cutter with 20 people being able to hunt on 1000 ac at a time i consider that alot, do yall? also that could mean around 12 dogs on the ground at a time and at least 4 or 5 trucks around the blocks? man yall doing real good to catch hogs with all that going on, not to mention the stress of the other hunters interferring with your bays, dogs etc... thats sad it has to be like that. guess you have tryed to voice your opinion on the matter to no avail?

Privately yes. The commission may say they want the general public's opinion, but that is all a legality.

I thought there were some later in the year that were weekends?  maybe not I may have been looking at the wrong dates  Cheesy, how is the hunting typically and how are the ethics of the other hunters on average?

Hunting ethics are horrible, but I have come to expect that from most Floridians.   Wink

So what are you saying ??

Real simple. Dog hunter etiquette has gone by the wayside. The men that took me in and showed me the ropes were all old timers. They were all retired. They were both legal and merciful. They did not kill to brag.  They were fair to the local population. When they dispatched an animal, it was quick. If someone did wrong, they would call the game warden on their CB, and report any wrongdoing. They were all respected by their piers, and did not hesitate to help someone who wanted to learn. It pained me as years would go by, and I would hear of one of them passing. I would he surprised if any of them are alive today. When the passed, I swear they took common courtesy with them. You just can't find it anymore.

When I look around while at public hunts today, it really ticks me off.  My dogs can be locked down bayed, and I'll see some clown cutting his dogs to them.  I swear part of the problem is people are packing sorry dogs. They are not used to a dog that can bay until the owner gets to them. If they hear a bay for 1 minute, they assume no one is going to them. They will cut their rough catch dogs loose thinking no one will know.  I take pride knowing I don't have to run to a bay.  My dogs will be bayed until I show up, or the hog breaks.  I'll stop there for know. I've got to go take a blood pressure pill.  Angry

HAHA, yeah to hell with those public hunts... good way to get your hard earned dogs hurt or stolen by idiots turning into them...

Too many people allowed to hunt at once.  If they would spread the permits out over more time it would solve the issue instantly....

Same amount of permits, just spaced out so as not to create interference between hunters...

I read somewhere recently that the SWMD people were bragging about how efficient their "management plan" was, in that, "over a hundred hogs were removed last yr".... ARE YOU SERIOUS?   We've killed over 200 hogs off of one ranch alone just this last year.

These people are just your typical bureaucrats that have no F-ing idea how to manage their way out of a wet paper bag...

Well let's hear some ideas then, what is, or what would your strategy be.

I'm thinking if everyone was actually spread out evenly you'd alwas be within like 1000 yds of the next group.
So I can imagine dogs are gunna go to other bays that they hear, or your dogs could run a hog into another area where other people are at. And I can se how it could turn into, "my dogs were on it first".

But some of us don't have places to go whenever I get a day off.

Come on I don't want to read anymore about how bad its gunna suck..
We have to adapt to the situation.
And along the same line geronimo was saying, if you can have success in a crappy situation, you can feel that much better about it. Like shooting a big buck on public land.

o how would you handle a place this congested?

Short range rough dogs with plenty of hands to surround the block and cut off dogs...

Had several friends loose high dollar dogs out at mallory swamp from their long range dogs runnin' off property and private land owners killin' the dog out of frustration of the amount of dumba$$es crossing their property line...

Love to hear CrackerC's opinion on this as he hunts them a lot and knows the game much better than I.

I hunt them plenty, and make a point to stand up for myself. That alone generally gets the attention and word out.   Wink

I don't hunt them that much, but I'm going to be in town during February. I've hunted in and all around Coker prairie in my younger days. Ain't no fence or gate ever been able to keep me off "public" land. Wink Good lookin woods in there and lots of hogs. Figured $50 split 3 ways ain't to bad to be able to hunt it again legally. I usually hunt one dog at a time on these type of hunts. Never a shortage of googans on these hunts, but huntin one rough, close range dog helps eliminate "most" problems. Public land dog hunts suck anywhere you go. Two weeks ago here in Tennessee, it was a three ring circus in these mountains. I'm really surprised no one was killed. You can try and take anyones dog you want, just don't ever let me catch you takin mine Wink Be safe and catch 'em up.

I guess thats what its calld nowdays when  ur dogs r stolen. How would u adapt to it? Its chitty when then gov steals ur tax dollars, buys land out from under folks, n then says, if u want to use it, pay me for what used to every1s. Folks shouldnt hav to adapt to that. If u think we should, then u might as well be a prison warden. Mayb u should hav ur freedoms taken away n ghe rest say just adspt to it. Florida aint my state n hope nvr to visit, but it sucks for u folks that are there n r putn up with that kinda gov buerocrap. If tx gets that way, we need to start thinnin the heard from tax waistin

I love listening to people talk about how messed up our government is. It's just sooooo interesting to hear everyone's politcal point of view .

Let's start a new post, and instead of complaining about it, let's talk about what we can do to fix it. All that Passion is wasted here in these little posts. I have beliefs, and opinions. Besides knowing jesus, is it going to help me that you know those beliefs and opinions....no

Put words into action, and ill do what I can to help.

Me: The weather is nice today.

You: You know, those weather people suck. They can't predict anything. Where do they get off taking time out of my news program trying to tell me what the weather may or may not be. Back in my day we looked at the sky to tell what the weather is doing blah blah

HAHA, I agree with you JDJP... however, this is what is called the "brainstorming" part of things... got to talk to each other to figure out what the root of the problem is before one can come up with a solution....

I am all about solutions, trust me... bitchin' never fixed anything...

....So what would you like this new topic to be about, fixing SWMD or the government in general?   Quite a complex subject to say the least...  Wink Grin
