Its a permitted hunt on 'South West Florida Water Management District' lands owned by the District....I sure wish the SFWMD would open up their properties!  We were going to shoot for one of the weekend hunts but not being familiar with the area / hunter ethics and the 'brucellosis and psuedorabies' warning was enough to deter us for atleast this year....but it sure looks like it is going to be nice weather!

Cutter, are they drawn or are they a scramble for first come / first serve?  I thought they were drawn.

Hunting ethics are horrible, but I have come to expect that from most Floridians.   Wink

A synopsis for you texas folks. I hope your state never ends like this.

The state of Fl buys millions and millions of acres of swamp land, old ranches and state "deemed" needed land. All in the name of "water management and easement areas. They buy Billions and Billions of dollars worth of land with tax payer money. Bought from the pockets of every tax dollar in Fl.

Then it cannot be touched by anybody. The open a few limited areas for hiking and horseback riding.

Then in the goodness of there heart....the "allow" hunters to hunt hogs on 1/2000 of the land they own, that we paid for and charge us $50 for 3 days access out of the whole year. That you have to draw over the computer on a first come first serve basis.Because the hogs become "too much to handle".

BTW this is the only hunting allowed on Millions of acres because the hogs are a nuisance. And the permits sold out in less than 6 minutes.

Sounds like a great deal for Fl hunters HUH?

Hunted GSW the past 6 years. I purposely did not put in for it this year. I'm done with it.

Well said cajunl... the way I see it is they are using the land as their own private pulp wood plantation... they don't give a chit about protecting anything... clear cut it all, kill all the hardwood, and plant money pine.... only let hunters in when the deer/hogs begin to damage saplings... all about the money....

I've got water management land butting up to every single place I hunt... NOTHING is done with it other than being managed for pine.

I've tried going the legal route and formally requesting "trapping rights" to those properties for over 10 years and it is a farce... I have been lied to over and over and over again... I last was told by the director of resources that the USDA had rights on the properties I was interested in... SO... I went straight to the USDA office in Gainesville that I personally do work for... THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY RECORD OF USDA TRAPPERS ANYWHERE IN THEIR RECORDS.

...using our hard earned tax dollars to yank our own land out from beneath our feet... make a chit pile of money off of it... just to raise our taxes again because they blew it all and say they need more...

F#@K THEM.  F#@K the bureaucrat manipulation by a few corporate A-HOLES looking to pad the wallet of those that paid the way for them to be in office.

I HATE our current government to say the least...  and I'll be DAMNED if I'm gonna give them $$$$ to hunt what rightfully belongs to the people.

Cajun and Noah said it right. Hikers and horse back riders get free access year round for free. Then when it comes to the hunters we have to pay again, after we purchased the land with are tax money. The SWWM hunts suck, people stealing dogs. Dropping the box on your dogs when they find and catch one then try to say the hog is theirs. On the other hand, all their land do have a good hopg population!! Evil Here is a hunt I was on when they dropped the box on me. Caught hog then 10 head of dog from no where!!!
