Ok i have a little bmc gyp that is out of some long range rought dogs... she is really stand offish...she has proved herself as rough pup as we have had her in the bay pen a few times and works just how i want her to...rough but smart....and she has been in the woods a couple of times with our older dogs and hunts great....but i cant get over how skiddish she is....last time i went with a group of buddies they had to drive off out of sight before she would come to me where i could load her and she tucks her tail everytime she comes to me....she has never had to have an attitude adjustment of any kind....she stayed with me in my house as a puppy for a while....but sometimes she doesnt even want to come to me....any help on how i can work on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Usually dogs like that have been beat pretty good but sometimes it just takes some TLC or a little more attention.. not saying you dont but thats just what it sounds like. I have a dog kindda like that but hes been like that since he was a puppy on the ride home he winned the whole way. But with time hes gotten over it.

JMO here..I've had more than one dog exactly like yours.  The older and more expierenced I get, the more I can't deal with a skiddish (shy) dog.  When I first started, I was patient and I wanted to give everydog a fair shot.  Some came around, but most didn't.  Animals are going to be animals and some of them just have a shy nature around humans.  I dont know you and I dont know the dog but I know that at this point in my hunting career I would not take or own a shy dog.  There are a lot of times when I need my dogs to load up and load up now.  I could go on forever about this subject becuase I've dealt with it a lot and I have even started threads about this same topic before.

MAN x100 when i need to go its time to go. There is nothing more aggravating when im tryin to load up dogs and i have to case one around! Angry

The best thing i can say is if you think the dogs worth it then keep working em but after a while theres really not much else.
.
Luckly my dog came around  but if he hadnt then IDK what would of happened

IMO she does too may things very good to just quit her...although she has not found her own pig yet because the two places i took her to are hit or miss either there or not....she is pig savy and def knows how to keep ones attention and will stop one as we have seen in the bay pen with some rank pigs.... ill just keep workin on it and if it takes 10 or 15 min extra to catch her after she starts findin pigs for me then so be it.....i really appreciate yalls input its nice to see other people take on it..

I had a dog like that one time and he was as wild as the wind. I couldnt catch this dog at all. I decided it was time to go to the woods with him because i wasnt gonna feed him if i couldnt hunt him. My boys had to catch him and collar him. He hunted good and loaded up when we where done. He just didnt like to be handled i guess but if you like the dog keep it but your gonna have your hands full

Some of the best dogs I own started out just like her.

I worked to get mine to load on the truck and get in the box themselves with out me being right there by the truck. Make the dog box a good safe place to be. Feed her in the box a couple times a week. Load her and give her a hot dog, things like that. Be very patient, I never make a decision on a dog like that untill they are at least a year old.

even if your not hunting, take her with you every chance you get in the pickup truck. i know you know this but the more interaction with you and others is great for any dog.

Personally it wouldn't bother me much.  Like Paul said, a good many of the best dogs I've owned and hunted around have been pretty stand-offish.  But there's also a difference between a dog thats scared, and one that just doesn't much care to be handled....The latter honestly being my preference.

I feed my hunting dogs to leave and go hunt, not hang around and be my friend.  Trust me, your friends won't mind much at the end of the day if it takes a few minutes to get your dog loaded up when it's the one that just put on the show.

Some of the best dogs I have owned had a fragile personality and these dogs didn't need much correction.

Always  a mild hand because these dogs could have a major set back if we make a mistake while training or hunting. The right dogs are worth the trouble. This trait can be genetic or can be caused by human error or a combination of both.

Sounds to me this pup is worth the trouble...just keep working and socializing her as often as you can. Just try and keep her anxiety level to a minimum while socializing or working her.

i dont think thats true at all just because its skiddish dont mean it has been beat. i think its genetics most of the time. i have seen dogs bread that were spooky and all the pups were the same way. most dogs will grow out of it but it does take alot of time.

X2 I think that more times than not its the breeding. Some dogs are just more skiddish than others.
