I had to put my old Sherri dog down today. I wish everyone gets the chance to own a dog like this one day. She was given to me by Danny Hill (RIP) who is the person responsible for starting me in this sport. I got her because she escaped her puppy pin and had gotten stuck under a dog house and I showed up in time to rescue her from an untimely death. Danny said I could have her since I had found her. Well, my sister was living with my parents at the time and had my niece with her. When I got home with the pup, Ami asked me if it was her new dog. I smiled and said of course darlin. I raised and trained Sherri from a 5 week old pup and she turned out to be the best dog that I have owned to date. She had a knack of finding a hog even when the other dogs seemed not to smell anything. I was able to trade my niece a pup a few years later to regain ownership of Sherri. The "Old Lady" had way more bottom than any dog I ever had and was truly impressive when hunting a grain field. She would stand on her hind legs and run back and forth and seemed to always pick the row the hogs were on. There are several people on here that had the opportunity to hunt behind her and I hope she gave them memories that stay in their head for many years to come. There are only two pups out of Sherri that I am aware of that are still living. Both are 10 months old and seem to be on the way to making good dogs. Thanks "Old Lady" for all those sleepless nights and for always being a solid dog. I won't forget you or any of the hunts we had together! I took her out to meet Jamima before I put her down and told her to whisper the secrets of the trade to her before she left so I will give yall updates in several months on how the talk went. RIP Sherri 8-1-1998 - 11-3-2011

National Forest 4 or 5 years ago
I think I had walked about 38.5 miles that day. My feet had blisters and my legs were jelly. On our way back to the camp she disappeared. I remember Thomas getting a little nervous when the Quicktrack quit picking her up. We made our way back to camp, hopped in the truck, and headed in the direction we last had her on the Quicktrack. I think Circle C & Alandrot were driving. They may correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it was a little over 6 miles from camp when we found the raggedy soup hound bayed. Hopefully she had some tips for Aunt Jemima!!
RIP Sherri

Sure sorry to hear that Thomas, I saw her at your house a few weeks ago and she was looking good still. I have several good memories of her from the years. She is one of those that cant replaced and will always be compared to. RIP Sherry girl

I'm sure Chris can find the pics, but he used to take pics of sherri loaded up in the front seat of our truck and message the pics to Thomas as if sherri were being stolen. She was a great dog, and I have more memories than I can count of hunting behind her. What an awesome dog, glad she decided to hang out for a good long while. Sorry she's gone, but I'm guilty of being selfish and wanting the good ones to last forever. Sherri's body may have started to fail her, but I guarantee her mind was still set on baying hogs. I sure hope the Lord has a good tracking system. He's gonna need it with sherri up there.
Cheers M

Sorry to hear it. 13 years old. I guess PETA won't use that story.

Sherry Pie or Fat Old Lady what ever You knew her by, she was worthy of knowing. Those of You that know Us, know there is a "competitiveness" between Thomas and I, of "whos?" dog find the most hogs, who catches more hogs, bigger hogs, badder hogs ect. This Old dog meant alot to my husband, and to our pack over the years, the memories she has left us with, the hogs she has produced, the pups she has helped start in the woods are priceless. I will put on my Big girl panties and on ETHD this one time in front of all the these people to honor the Old Sherry dogs memory and admit only this one time and one time only that Sherry would find hogs in further distance than my dogs on several occasions and keep them bayed all by her lonesome. RIP Sherry I took a picture of Thomas checking her feet on a hunt last year when she was limping
