Just a thought.... How old is the dog, and has he ever run with a vest before? Ive got a 6 year old finished cur thats exactly like you described. The previous owner ran him in a vest for years and couldnt figure out why the dog wouldnt hunt. When i got him i hunted him the same way the previous owner did, til i got POed. Took the vest off collared him and turned him out. just like that i had pork in the freezer. I know not every dog is the same just some food for thought. Oh and to answer your question Ive never tried the viper vest.

He might not like the vest but if I had a good dog like that I wouldnt run him without some sort of protection. At least a boar bib.

Viper cloth vest is good material, I've got a catch dog viper vest and love it. Just make sure you get the right size.

The viper vest is ok - I have two. The material on the front is pretty good, if you have a gritty dog though I would be careful using it. The first time we ran the viper vests one of the dogs took a 3 inch poke through the vest in the sternum area, and the other dog took a poke in the rib cage. I guess they are like any other vest they only protect to a point. But I will say this, without the vest it sure would have been worse. I also have a dog that will hardly hunt at all while wearing it - but as soon as I take it off - he is on fire.

Appreciate the help, not sure how he hunts with a vest but I do know he has wore one... Guess it's a hit or miss but he's worth it.
