Im in need of some ideas. As ive written before, im returning back to the mainland and moving to the great state of Texas and I will be in need of building a new kennel. Im looking to stay in one spot for awhile, so something permanent is what needs to be built. Im really not sure what the weather is like in Northeastern,Tx but im still looking for property from Abilene to Mt. Pleasant; with those yearly weather conditions, what type of kennel would be of the best design? What would be the best material used (i.e. fencing, concreat cinderblock for walls?) Straight outdoor run? Indoor/Outdoor run? Im looking to build 7 stalls, all with concret flooring, and hopefully a drain system where i can hose everything down daily. What do you all do for drainage? Any do's and don'ts?
I have so many questions and a year doesnt seem to be enough time, but maybe yall can help and give me some ideas. Im hoping to put this all in the works within the next few months. So if you have any pictures of your kennel or any helpful comments id appreciate it!!

  10x20 area poured sectioned into four kennels I had one chainlink kennel I recycled but used doc bob kennels from TSC for the rest and have been pleased. I used four inch pipe for my drains and used old five gallon buckets for drain hole. Sloped slightly toward the drain. Only thing I would change is put a small one or two inch ledge around the whole thing to keep all waste inside. Put lag bolts in cement to secure kennels two. They stay in place good now but when I add the roof I'm worried the wind will pick up the kennels. |

I did quite a bit of research on all the pros and cons before building mine. I have friends with concrete kennels, and although theirs don't have drainage (septic) systems, they have proven to be pretty tough to keep clean. Metal kennels, withouth the proper upkeep, will rust out in a fairly short amount of time from urine. For these reasons and the cost associated with building these type kennels, i opted to go this route....   |

Deepsouth I like the functionality of above ground kennels better than concrete. The main reason I went with cement is it's more appealing to the eyes and the property value where I live and I needed to be able to wash the poop down the drain. If I were out in the country I might go your route. As far as cost I've got about $1000 in my setup total. I did all the dirt work and poured the cement my self.

Would you sell a copy of the plans and the order of construction and a bill of materials for your set up, its one of the best i have ever seen, can pay cash if you could toss something together, i like the deck blocks for the timbers, i have a bunch of them left over from a job!!! Nice work for sure!!! |

Knightstock, I can probably dig up the the receipts for a list of materials, but as far as a set of plans, I never had one. I had a picture in my head of how i wanted them to look and just went with it. Give me a little time and i will see what i can come up with for you.
