Does any one hunt them I was just wanderin if thay were good hog dogs!!
All I hunt with is bmc/ and cats ?? Just wandering !!

I had a good AIREDALE a few years ago.  A real cold nosed trail dog.  Very rough on hogs though.  Mine would fight a hog, rather than just catch it. 

I have had trouble trying to locate another one since.  I would get another one right now, if I could find one from a real hunter.  They are mostly over-priced, show dogs and over-sized pets, useless in the woods.  Do your homework, because there are some good ones out there.

Buy a good comb and trimmers before you get a shaggy one.  I forget the name of the comb but it takes out the dead hair underneath, and helps cool the dog off.

What I have read and herd about them thay sound like  ;Dmy kind of dog !!!!

I hunt with a guy that has a purebred airadale gyp.  She is a good dog and she will hunt out medium range.  She is very rough and will try to catch anything no matter the size.  The guy I hunt with likes to cross his airadale with curdogs to get exactly what he is looking for.  He gave me a cross on time and I culled it; I wouldn't go back and get another but that is just me.  I guess like every other type of dog and dog cross there are good ones and there are culls.

i owned one.i liked her hunted medium try to catch anything.she had a overheating problem she didnt dispurse heat right.so i gave her away as a pet.

I hunt with a buddy who has a half airedale/half german shepherd dog. It was an accidental breeding and he got a pup from his uncle just to see what he would do. Looks wise it could probably pass for a full airedale. That dog is a hog finding machine. If a hog is around, he wont give up until he finds it. And if you hear him barking, you can bet it is a big hog. That dog is usually bark, bark, catch. He has crossed the dog once with a BMC and got two solid dogs out of it, and I have an 8mo old pup now out of  his second cross to a different BMC and it is showing lots of potential.

I have internet reseached the breed quite a bit looking for a dog, just because I like to be different, but have found what most others here have said. Its hard to find one that is actually hunting bred. Most that I came across were all show ponies. If you come across some good hunting bred ones, post it up here, because I would be interested.

I know a old guy who only hunts airdales there proven and crossed with cur and inbred but guys I got a pup out of the last litter she is 8 months old and deaf but finds hogs always no money in the world could buy her and I am gettin 4 next time she is rough might not live long been cut 4 times already and I will prolly cross her with cue when she comes in

I also have one crossed on a bmc and at 10 months old he is hell on wheels sure ready for deer season to be gone lol.

2 months ago a gentleman here in oklahoma was giving 5 pups away,i will call the feed store and see if he had any left over,they were pure airdale and i think about 3 months old at the time.

I have hunted with a good many airedales and airedale crosses. The pure breeds are hot nosed, gritty, and hard hunters. They are tough as nails but come up lacking in finding abilty compared to dogs with more nose. They seem to do a lot better crossed with a hound.

  I have been looking around trying to find some I could watch work for years.  I would like to see them hunt or work cows.  I dont just want an airdadale I want a working one.

Buy a subscription to Full Cry Magazine, there is a hunting airdale club newsletter in it about hunting strains of airdales every month, they need shearing like sheep, dig like crazy and there are a few strains of Orang Airdales left, they are larger and have been used on bear hogs lions for 100 years or more, avoid the show dogs and get one from a baying and treeing strain you will be ok,

they don't hunt as good as a mtn cur...don't catch as good as a pitbull...make good pack dogs and the good ones will catch when told...a pain to clip/shear. when clipped short the good ones hunt pretty hard. Space is limited at my house so will not have one. I raised and bred for a good while. crossing an oorang or large mtn type with a good standard type produces some good dogs.

That is what a lot of peeps have found out that corssed them, why I dont know or understand, might as well stay with a black mouthcur or mountian cur and quit trying to reinvent the wheel, to tell the truth they make better squirrel dogs than hog dogs down where i used to live and hunt, too much hair and love of water will get them eaten!!
