I've seen alot of greyhound or greyhound crosses here, I was wandering how you get one? I though they were real had to come by for breeding. All the ones I've seen are fixed and ex track dogs.

I have a source for intact greyhounds by the trailer load....  Males, Females, all intact, and typically about 12-14 months old.  They are track dogs that didn't make the cut.

We tried a few of them a couple years ago and didn't like the results when comparing them to our greyhound that was raised from a pup to be a hog dog.

Try a stag hound. They're basically just bigger greyhounds. More speed, bottom and harder bite on em. We use em for yotes but I'm thinking about breeding out a 2/3 yella bmc 1/3 stag. Greyhounds an stags r easy to find. U can buy here in oklahome for anywhere from 100 to 1500 bucks depending on a lot of variables

agreed in premise, buti dont believe stags are faster than track bred greyhounds, if they are then ill be shaving a few of them wooly boogers or trying my hand at some off track betting.

We've got some in the family that will flat leave a greyhound like its standing still. We had both for awhile and ran em together. But I have seen greyhounds roll a yote in front of stags also. On that I think it depends on the dog. But for hogs I would use stags. They r faster than hogs and more powerful than greyhounds.

I have a half greyhound half pit female that has been an awesome catchdog for me  and I would love to find another like her.  I too have searched for greyhounds but all are fixed as mentioned above.
How do we go about tracking down one of these "track culls" that are mentioned?

Put em on yotes since I was knee high to a centipedes toe. We don't have any greyhounds anymore I don't believe. But all our stags are intact and have a high prey drive. Located in sw ok

I gotta question when you cross a greyhound do you use a female greyhound or the male or does it matter

If u want size u breed a male stag to a female greyhound. If u want smaller stocky(these dogs are all thin so stocky is a thick thin if that makes sense to you) the you breed a male greyhound to a femmale stag. Stags are pretty much wolfhound/greyhound mixes bred down a lil bit.  These dogs are also more bred to fight than to just catch and hold though. Best to get em as pups and teach from pups on up

A true stag is not wolfhound greyhound cross, the less wolfhound influence the better for a faster dog. A staghound is suppoosed to be A "SCOTTISH DEERHOUND x PURE GREYHOUND" The word "STAG" originates from dogs(scottish DEER hounds used to take down "stag deer",Usually a line of dogs is form from this direct cross and is continued to be called staghounds, half the litter may be slick haired and the other half long haired or broken coated like a jack russell. My dad has a very successful racing greyhound operation in australia and growing up we always used stags of the deerhound cross for roos and foxes and the crosses we used on hogs had some wolfhound influence but they were bulkier and heavier footed, the wolfhound influece makes them slower off the mark but once at full stride they are like a thorobred. I have found some breeders up around Kansas that keep some pure deerhounds for topping up there blood over the greyhounds and are using them on coyotes. Pure greyounds or hot bloods are extremely thin skinned and injure easily, they have problems with hair falling out around ther thighs etc. if you do not manange their protien intake especially in the summer but from experience i have never seen a stag outrun a hotblood greyhound on a average 200 yard slip, over a 500 to 600 yard chase on quarry thats a different story!!  Heres my stag i use for a RCD,he has a splash of airdale on his mommas side.

Rocking roo , that is a very nice stag , he looks just like a pup I sent down to Florida but that pup was a Track dog over a Stag bitch , the the stag was 3/4 Deer and 1/4 greyhound. The dog i put over her was a penske son I have track dogs as well . Were did you hunt foxes and roos in Aust  I grew up on cattle stations in western QLD.  I have done that pit cross as well with a penske dog over inbred mayday they are hard dogs and fast.  I would like to see some of the pure deerhounds you have up that way its hard to find any out of working stuff. How old is you Stag and do you have others ?

For the guys asking about greyhounds most are raised till around 14 or 15 months old before they are schooled and then around 16 months is the youngest you can get them on the track not many people will let them go before schooling .

Walkabout,i did all my roo and fox hunting right out the back door around my hometown,FINLEY N.S.W. thousands of acres of wheat and rice country and not many fences to be seen, then a 20 minute drive south to the border and your on the murray river, bushland and scrub for as far as you want to go.i will try to get some links for the dogs i found in kansas, they are really dedicated to there coyote huntin and coursing so they are holding on to some pure deerehounds for breeding. This stag of mine is just coming on 2 yrs old and i raised him from 6 weeks old, great all around dog to have with me. I got him from a friend whos dad raises and hunts coyote dogs up here in oklahoma, its like getting blood out of a stone trying to get a small puppy from them, they like to try them all ata year old and then cull from there. Im going to post some pics of dads dogs on here as soon as he emails them to me,he also raises some damn nice ridgebacks too.
